Eye Candy Compliments of a Friend!

Hey Krishna! Long time since I've been even lurking here... Work has me all over. Sunday night in Korea and missing home. I love the very first pic posted. Excellent photography in every way. Personally I am a turtle lover ever once my first tank dive in Hawaii. Hope all is well with you...

    Majano Hot Tub?

A file fish was my salvation! No more aiptasia/majano since he has been in the tank (about 6 months) and he eats whatever I feed. Not the prettiest fish... almost ugly but I love him... now if he would eat green hair algae I would be in heaven!

    Brightwell Salt Bucket Update

Good question. I am transitioning over to Brightwell Salt via 20% water changes. Wondering how this will affect my dosing rates?

Losing Fish... no idea what's wrong!

Thanks Krish... not for the xyz jab but yeah I plan to PM Kirk. I think I will now finally get regilious about using my QT tank prior to ANY new introduction! I just hope my others survive... I am very bummed and I have to leave in about 36hours until Friday. Clown is being transferred in a...

Losing Fish... no idea what's wrong!

Yeah been reading... going to set up a hospital tank for my clown. My guess is it is too late. But I think I need to isolate from the others. He is probably the only one I can catch anyways.

Losing Fish... no idea what's wrong!

The kole tang also got the swollen lips like the Chevron Tang that died about six months ago.

Losing Fish... no idea what's wrong!

The two tangs were flashing the sand before they died. Nobody else is doing it now though but they are a wrasse, rabbit, and a big goby. The clown does have some 'fuzz' on its fin extremities.

Losing Fish... no idea what's wrong!

Yep, already put some fresh carbon in my sump. Water changes to continue but I will be gone for most of a week on business starting Sunday. Not a good time to have the wife have to feed/monitor. She is not happy that I am leaving a sick tank.

Losing Fish... no idea what's wrong!

I have lost three fish in two days, a clown tang, a kole tang, and one of my picasso clowns... now the other of the mated pair is turning pinkish on his white part. Water params seem fine, Temp 77degF, Sal 1.026, Ca 410, Alk 10dkH, Mag 1400, (NO2 zero, NO3 zero NH4 zero, PO4 zero, well all near...

Who uses an EcoTech Marine Vortech pumps?

They do quiet down a bit after use... adjust 'em after awhile to tune them as well. They are expensive but amazing. Reefcrest mode is the ticket in my mind.

Ecotech MP40 vs Bowing Acrylic Tank

4 months is just the right amount of time to plan your new tank... get it built and move it in to your new place. Just make sure it fits!

Looking to buy a taller reef tank

I think Sid pretty much nailed it. The biggest and really only issue I had was maintenance. My old acrylic 28in deep with eurobracing was difficult to reach the bottom, clean, picking up fallen frags, etc. Actually it really became a pain the butt especially having to reach through a canopy...

Who uses an EcoTech Marine Vortech pumps?

Dial them down to 75 to 80% power and the noise is significantly reduced. Mine is in our living room with only LED fans in addition and it is plenty quiet for me. Noise is such a subjective and personal call though. I am extremely happy with mine.

Do any of you keep a wrasse in a bare bottom system?

Yes mine is a leopard wrasse and I would never consider BB with them. Not sure what OP has?

    maxspect led temps

Okay lights full on and they are running at 44degC for your reference. Tank is open top. Lights are suspended and about 4in above surface.

Ecotech MP40 vs Bowing Acrylic Tank

    Not doubt on that!

Do any of you keep a wrasse in a bare bottom system?

Very true! But the OP's wrasse does.

Do any of you keep a wrasse in a bare bottom system?

Now you are opening up another subject... well I guess I did with the Tang comment but I think small tanks especially with only a little live rock and maybe no sand is hard on most all fish. No data just my two cents worth. The way I look at it is I could live in a little smaller house but...

Ecotech MP40 vs Bowing Acrylic Tank

I have two 40s opposite either other on a 5ft glass tank. I voted yes, I don't think the MP40 will be the 'straw that breaks the camel's back'. But I would not run the Vortech such that you get a resonant wave form. They are cool to see but definitely harder on the tank. All that being said...

    maxspect led temps

My 160w run at 36 to 37degC with only the blue and white 3w bulbs on. I will post again the temp later today when the 30w whites fire up for a couple hours. I think it is still in the low 40s so you are probably running a bit hot and it could reduce the life of your unit even though you are...
