    Swimming Aiptasia meets its match!

I know how you feel... I am now a firm believer that you need to see a fish eat in the LFS before bringing them home if you are putting out a significant amount of money.

    Lime green flower pot coral

Here is my new addition... I was hesitant on getting this yellow/green goniopora as the last one i bought (lemon yellow) several years ago melted and didn't last long in captivity. I appreciate any tips on care of these long term. I have a red ORA goniorpora that is doing great.

    Snail outbreak?

Hey Focus, A neighbor you are! I think you are right. I have some large spiny star snails introduced about 9 months ago. Maybe they had babies? I first found these little guys in my sump though. Thanks for the link!

    Snail outbreak?

Okay, here is a pic of the snails... they are multiplying! This one is of average size... I have some smaller but they are hard to spot on the live rock and some that are now twice the size. These have appeared in the last four months or so and growing! I hope these guys are only eating up...

    Swimming Aiptasia meets its match!

Well, admittedly this is my second try. The first guy wouldn't eat anything but pick on the rocks (copapods) and he lasted about a month. I felt bad. This guy came from LFS and we fed him mysis in the store and when he bit, I bought him. Now he is eating mysis, frozen canivorous fish food, etc.

    Swimming Aiptasia meets its match!

I was just watching a 'swimming' aiptasia move around my tank and as I was getting ready to net it, my Copperband Butterfly ate it!!!!!! Awesome... finally a plan actually worked! Exciting day today on the reef.

    Snail outbreak?

Sorry no pics yet as we are on our way to open presents at sis's house :D but I will try to get a macro shot posted soon. I wish I could get other stuff to procreate like these little babies!

    Snail outbreak?

Merry Christmas Everyone! Question to the gang... I have an outbreak of tiny pointy edge cone shaped shelled snails in my fuge and DT. Should I be concerned? They are growing quite fast mostly white and adventurous.

    Dear Saltwater Hobby....

We all know you will be back. The itch gets stronger by the day. I suggest you avoid all LFS, pet stores, nature TV channels, reef websites (except this forum) until time is up. Resistance is futile.

    The silicon wait

Agreed. 2 days. Patience in this hobby will not necessarily reward you but it sure will save you $$$, time, and frustration!

Attaching Spa Flex hose to PVC

You can use the same PVC cement to bond the 'flexible' spa flex to the PVC. Just get the medium or thicker cement and use it liberally.

    Northend Chapter of PSAS?

Well one reason you haven't heard from at least this peninsula guy is that my business travel seems to always preclude attending meetings. As such... Commenting would probably incite some to jump on me for lack of participating. I can say though that the closer the meetings to me the more...

    Ecotech Marine MP 40 questions

I have two on opposite ends and love them. I use the reef crest mode and I dial back to 75% power and the noise is much reduced to the point it doesn't bother me in my living room. The flow is wide but powerful, better than the tunze IMO. Expensive yes and I would love to add more but you will...

    Chevron Tang with mouth problem

Sad news... I set up a quarantine, tore all the rock out to catch him doing all kinds of damage but he didn't make it two days in the hospital.

    Mechanical filtration (other than skimming)

Pads. I guess that is what I have. I have a filter box at the entrance of my sump with a couple stages where the water has to pass two pads before gaining entrance to the sump where the protein skimmer resides. I don't change these as often as I should but they do collect larger particles and...

    Leather Corals losing lobes

Leathers are generally pretty hardy. It does seem it has been affected by something and maybe the babies are are in part due to the irritation but I wouldn't worry at this point. I am assuming your water params are in order and nothing is attacking it that is visible? I recall my leather having...

    Chevron Tang with mouth problem

Okay here is the best pic I could get... it seems his lower lip is infected and a little more ragged. Overall mouth opening size is larger than normal. He is also now being much more timid... hiding more in the daylight. Came on quickly... one day!

    What type of carbon?

I don't have reactor... always done mesh bags. Are you all saying I should go with lignite and invest in reactor??? I am okay with that. Give me then (please) suggestions on simple quality reactors.
