    Starting the cycle question

To answer YOUR question You use one large raw shrimp. Place it in a panty hose toe, tie a knot in it and toss it in. That way when you have the cycle going you can remove it easily.

Come pick my brain...I know there are more beginners out there.

Dang, I will be the first to admit that I am not very knowledgeable in that subject at all. I have never used UV or Ozone so I never really monitored ORP as a by product. I'm sure I can rustle up Mojo or an article for you though,.

what are some good monitoring systems?

I disagree. I find the advanced programming to be very robust and able to maintain multiple tanks with well over 1000 gallons of volume. Reefkeeper if anything is more ad hoc than the Apex system with far less capabilities and far worse customer service. This isjust my opinion, but it differs...

what are some good monitoring systems?

Also the Apex can text message you, email you, allow worldwide access via the internet including webcam capabilities as well as offers support for both the Apple IOS and Android operating systems for smarrtphones.....

what are some good monitoring systems?

LOL would you care to explain your stance on the APEX? I have used mine to monitor tanks with thousands of dollars in livestock in them....with great success at that.

    Confused about sump/pump flow rate.

I agree with Skimmy for a change. If for some reason you have a large amount of pipe restriction from elbows etc then upgrade the pump to compensate.

Wondering if there is a live food for eels

I really need to get into my tank and move the rockwork until I find mine. I haven't seen her in a couple weeks before I left for Thailand.

Sea snakes... ok to have in a tank?

Sea snakes can be extremley poisonous and unless you are an experienced marine biologist doing research on the species I suggest leaving them alone. Some species can also get rather large and need a ton of room to swim through the water.

    29 to 75 conversion

It's been done I believe. The advantages and disadvantages for both are pretty well known and discussed, but if it becomes an issue for you in your upgrade I'm sure someone will delve into the subject.

    Live rock rubble in fuge

I use rubble in my fuge under my ATS and sand bed. I do so because it is a great place for sponges and the like to grow and thrive. At least this is my experience.

    Poll: Flow turnover rate

That is another topic to get into though. I am able to get away with a much lower turnover in the cube vs my old peninsula because I am able to create a Gyre effect via Vortech programming. The concept of using the fluid dynamics in the tank to increase the overall force of water movement can...

    Poll: Flow turnover rate

I am running 2 MP40W ES, 2 MP10W ES, and a Reeflo Dart with 2 exits... so in the 200 cube I am running about a 81x turnover but am using the Gyre effect to increase the effectiveness based on my atoll rockwork. In my 75 gal tank I had almost 166x turnover at one point just prior to upgrading.
