give me your thoughts on best 250W metal halide bulb

I currently have a 250W SE bulb from Pacific Garden Supply that I have been running for a few months (a Generic no name 14K). It seems ok for most of the sps corals in the tank, but the oregon blue is a light blue, so I suspect I may need more PAR? I have heard from some of you that the...

Plumbing a long run under my house?

I have a sump out in my garage about 20 feet away from my tank. I did use larger diameter drains and it was a little tricky, but it works and having all the waterworks and noise in the garage is really nice.

    Electrical fires due to aquarium???

I have mentioned before that our company does x-ray inspection and we have a customer that brings in items that have caused house fires to verify what happened. I would have to say that power strips are the most common item they bring in. And then battery chargers, laptops and others. The...

any electricians out there that want to help me wire my panel?

After a day of wiring (and a home depot trip), the panel is alive. Thanks Myteemouse (Adam) for the help. I really appreciated your electrical expertise. We got the panel functional, now I just need to do some clean up and running some wires to outlets, switches and a few other mini...

Warner Marine AS200 Skimmer is finally mine!!

I can say that my AS150 has been a great skimmer you will be happy with your AS200. My old ASM skimmer was a pain and temperamental to keep running, I constantly had to fiddle with it. So the Warner Marine skimmer has really been an improvement. You are right about the support from Jon Warner...

any electricians out there that want to help me wire my panel?

I am at a standstill and just haven't had time to get things finished like I wanted. My father in law passed away during the holidays and my wife and I have been consumed and busy with all that entails. I have my tank up and running, but my electrical panel in my garage sump/bench is still not...

    ? about SeaClone skimmer

I had a seaclone and I hate to say anything too negative about it, but at some point upgrading to a better skimmer will make a huge difference. I had the Seaclone and it just never did a very good job, but maybe they are better now. I think I put a more powerful powerhead onto my seaclone...

Top places to go scuba diving?

one cool place my wife and I like is Kona Hawaii. Snorkeling at the Cpt Cook monument with all kinds of yellow tangs and reef fish. We loved it. You can also dive with the Manta Rays. I'm sure there are other great places, but we had fun in Kona

    A good brand of heater??

just my $0.02 worth but if you value the advice and convenience of the local fish store and how nice it is to have them nearby for situations just like this...it might be good if you buy your heater from them. Fish store owners don't get paid very well for all the advice they give, (compared to...

    A good brand of heater??

My opinion is that I just don't trust aquarium heaters that much... I have had several different heaters, titanium, glass, digital LED and they have all failed at some point. The Aqua medic LED display model I had used to change to different settings on it's own when there was a power surge...

Wiring & Electrical Design & Safety!

I have been using some marine grade electrical panels in my design...Not done yet, but I will post up after I have the finished result. I want to minimize using cheap power strips, poor connections and simplify the wiring. Also I want to have visual indicators of problems or status (i.e. meter...

BobinCovington's new system "makeover"with sump stand, elos tank and...

New pics showing several frags and things are beginning to look like a reef. I added a vortech MP20 and kept my Tunze, so the current flow has really improved. The vortech is on "reefcrest" mode from right to left and the Tunze points at an angle to the front glass, making a clockwise current...

caught the crab in a beer glass

I used a small 1/2" pvc elbow with bait stuffed in and saran wrap on the ends and a rubber band. I poked holes in the saran wrap so the scent could get out. The pvc sinks to the bottom of the glass and the fish can't get to it. I put some of that Rod's food in for bait.

caught the crab in a beer glass

I finally caught the elusive rock crab with a pint beer glass and some Rod's food in a small bait holder. Thanks Cy (from Barrier) for the great tip. I am two for two on crabs in beer glasses now. I just want others who have destructive crabs hiding in their live rock to know that this works...
