    Calcium Reators (diy)

I did mine DIY by a modified design by DJ88 on reef central. Great reactor and HUGE capacity. Able to vary the size and keep the principles the same. i used scrap acrylic from a store near my house. I had no previous experience with acrylic and it was fun. Just the reactor was pretty cheep...

calcium dosing via kalk stirrer and ca reactor

I agree with Don. You really don't have any demands for calcium at this point. Kalk reactor first, then when you really get stocked up, add the calcium reactor.

    Phosban & Algae

Personally, I like the phosban. Another question, how long has your tank been up and has it cycled? From what you briefly describe, Don is probably right, increase your flow for cyano

    MH - single-ended or double-ended?

This is a bit long winded, but hopefully answers your question... So I researched this topic a whole bunch before purchasing my current setup. Basically, the DE bulbs are meant to be pushed by an HQI ballast. That being said, the produce more light, more heat, and typically more PAR (a rough...

    250gal Island tank project

looks great. The center overflow and closed loop were very well designed. I would get as much rock in there as possible to let it start curing. You can aquascape later. Mat

Where to have a canopy custom made in the Seattle area?

if you want a custom canopy made from wood to match a wood stand, I would recommend BigDave. He made my stand/canopy combo and did a great job. Looks like a professional piece of furniture. My wife loves it.

1/3 HP chiller: which to buy?

I have a Titan aquamedic 1/2 HP chiller that i bought referbished from the dealer for a very good deal. It is quoted as a 1/2HP but the BTUs are actually more in line with a 1/4 to 1/3 hp unit. I like the unit. It cools well and other than having to tighten a few things that were vibrating...

How 2 install hose barb on ev 180?

I also think you do not want the water level as high in the skimmer. If you upsize the pump, you should get excellent skimmate with the water level about 1" lower.

    Don't Know Squat

ok, I will bite: 2) A coral's natural environment has a constant turnover of nutrients and water. Corals are typically exposed to a HUGE amount of water and given the tides and currents of water, this volume of water is essentially new and fresh on a moment to moment basis. 3) Also, the...

Please help me see the beauty of SPS!

I also love the fact that SPS are fragable. I like the idea of purchasing frags from other reefers, growing up small pieces to larger colonies and then fragging them out as well. Also, if the conditions are right, I love seeing the corals change from the brown and tan sticks you mentioned to...

Taking care of your tank while on vacation

There are many things that can be automated so that you can be gone longer. However, if something bad happens and someone isn't around then trouble can follow. I say this, sitting a 2 hr plane flight away from my tank with nobody watching over it. I would recommend doing a water change before...

Anyone have experience with these cheap bulbs?

i bought three 15k DE bulbs on ebay from A&T lamps. Great color, very cheap bulb (~$40), but 1 died at about 2 months, another died at about 4 months. The third bulb is still alive but I was not impressed by the durability. Mat
