    xenia is gone...

So what have you guys heard about xenia being a Nitrate consumer? I've heard of people converting their whole refugium/sump into a xenia area for the pure purpose of nitrate consumption. Also, I have three types of xenia in my tank (Silver Branching, Pom Pom, and another unidentified type)...

ID these corals and anenome for me please

First One I agree with Sid its a Condy For Brains look under Favia or Acanthastrea - looks more like a Favia to me but I'm no expert on it. Kenya Tree or Taro Tree Coral - (Capnella sp.) though both are Capnella according to fosters and smith...

my starfish gets skinny unless I don't clean

Hey Brie, perhaps you could do like what they do to milk cartons and perform some optical comparison to deterime weight gain or loss. Meaning if you could place the star fish on the same rock and the camera in the same spot every time then you could put them side by side or even over lay the...

    Bob Moore Limited Edition

Salmonslayer, BarrierreefCF is Cy. Also I don't think any of us are in a rush for the coral and IMO its only a matter of time before we're all helping spread Bob Moore Limited Edition (BMLE?) around. As they say, one good turn deserves another.

    help -- zoo problems!

So as Knowcrap has said I don't believe that either the crab or the snail are after the zoanthids. I've brought home zoanthids and one of the very first things to happen to it is that my tuxedo urchin has run through it. She never damaged the zoanthids but did wipe out some byrosis that I didn't...

    porcilan crab

Mean??? I haven't seen that yet. I've got three of them and all they ever do is put themselves in a crevis or a seculded "safe" spot which has a lot of flow going by it and they sweep use their little tubeworm like scoops to filter food out. Though they do have some pretty beefy pincers so...

    Cleaner shrimp sucks!

You got it! Just look for similar markings and you should be good. I can't remember if there is a look alike or not but if you look for similar markings that should negate that though you could just buy two of the same type and have three total! :D I've periodically been peeping in on the tank...

    Cleaner shrimp sucks!

Yup, kind of like my silly tuxedo urchins they keep dispersing eggs but I don't have a silly male to spread sperm around to fertalize them. So right now since you don't have two shrimps your one is making eggs but nothing is coming from it. It's really cool too as you can see the tail grow...

    Cleaner shrimp sucks!

Just a FYI these guys are hermaphrodatic. So don't run around looking to hard for a "male" Typically from my observations of my two Cleaners they molt a couple of days apart. From what I've read it's once they molt and their exoskeletons are soft that the second shrimp will fertilize the other...

I could use some help identifing these!

Krish, Thanks! :D Actually I've got Mojanos and Atipista too! They kind of came with the tank and I'm continually joe juicing them as I find them. The rate at which I'm doing that though has decreased since I've gotten some peppermint shrimp in tank but still I'm unable to catch all of the...

I could use some help identifing these!

On the multiply issue that would be an affirmitive. I had two on a center piece of rock and those are now up to about four and the rock pictured started out with zero or perhaps so small that I didn't notice them. And now they are up to about 6 or 7. Plus some assorted ones I find around.

I could use some help identifing these!

So I'm debating whether these guys are anenomes or jelly fish? Anyone want to weight in on these? In the picture there are both head on and side view of specimens. So also I've yet to find the resource I was reading again but could someone confirm if they are jelly fish can they propigate from...

Why do I have green algae only growing on the places

With my experience with Hair Algae it really isn't picky. It'll grow where ever it can get a source of nutrients and light.

    Looking for some SPS suggestions

Thanks for the suggestion Gabby. Overall I really have no interest in "switching" over. I find the SPS very beautiful, vivid and interesting but I really am not that interested in them to devote my whole tank to them. If I can find a few specimens that will do well given my other inhabitants...

    Looking for some SPS suggestions

Well I'd like to get some suggestions on potential SPS corals that might do well in my tank. I've been told that my tank has sufficent lighting but I'd like to get opinions. The tank calculates out to be approxiametly 110 actual Gallons. I'm currently running 1 400W metal halide centered on...
