    So it's 6:15AM....

...and I've been up since 10PM last night setting up a new tank. What makes a person attempt to do something like that when it's bedtime?!? Just waiting for the new water to reach temp so I can put these damn corals in, which is taking much too long for some reason. -Dan

    Help with softies+SPS

I'd be more worried about the SPS dying from lack of calcium and alkalinity in such a small tank. Stay on top of dosing and water changes!

Please help with Sump Return & Overflow --PICS--

Or maybe you just need more water in the system. I'm looking at the pic of your sump/return pump and the return section is really low. Add a few gallons and see what it does. -Dan

Please help with Sump Return & Overflow --PICS--

Pull the cap on the durso, that will tell you if the hole is too small. Did you check to see if the problem is the sump itself? It looks nicely done but the bubble traps may be a bit too close. I still think your sump return is a little heavy duty for the application. -Dan

Please help with Sump Return & Overflow --PICS--

I don't see a closed loop. A closed loop is a system that just circulates water within the aquarium, no sump involved. As far as the mag pump taking more than it receives thats just an issue of flow rates. It says you have a 1.5" drain line, I'm not sure that it can handle 1500gph of gravity...

    CO2 refill on a Sunday

They fill CO2 at Sportco....assuming you have a paintball style bottle and not one with industrial fittings. -Dan

How do you make your saltwater? Any tricks?

Hobby store.... But they also have something similar for mixing paint, you'd find that in the paint department. -Dan

    Bacteria growth on SPS coral

I had a outbreak of the green algae, it covered everything. I left my lights off for a day and it all disappeared. -Dan

    Time for Turkey Sandwichs

Could always try a 'hot' turkey sandwich. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Wrapped between two slices of your favorite carbohydrate.

Thinking of switching ballasts for the Current USA Outer Orbit HQI fixture..

I don't think that you'll see a gain when switching from the magnetic to an electronic, mostly due to the upfront cost of the upgrade itself. It's like buying a hybrid that gets 5mpg better but costs 10k more than the standard model ;)

    Halide wiring help

Yep- Wire it up. Solder/heatshrink is the best way to go about splicing the two together but wirenuts will work in a pinch. I worked commercial lighting maintenance for a few years and we only used wire nuts when connecting ballasts, but time was critical... get in get out!

    What paint for glass tank?

Are you painting on a flat surface? ie: the tank is laying on its face.

Need help with a remote fuge design

How much flow is going through your sump right now? I think you may be trying to push too much water, even though your refuge is a 80gal. -Dan

Damn you tom, those are my powerheads! I've got a 10gallon? Heater, etc and so forth. Probably some egg crate for it too. -Dan

    Too Much Chaeto?

I think the softball sized chaeto is to facilitate growth. My guess as to what that 'crap' that falls off is exactly that. It's things that accumulate on the algae itself due to the effect it has as a filter. I'm sure the pods contribute to this a bit. I'd siphon all that nonsense up and...

Skimmers That Do Not Release Micro Bubbles

Add a sponge to the outlet for the water, your bubbles should disappear. Skimmers will always add microbubbles, nature of the beast right there.
