Here we go again...DSB...yes or no?

A DSB with a plenulum and sand seeded with GARf grunge or the stuff from IPSF really helps with nitrates. My tank looks great after 2 years. That being said, I'm upgrading to a new tank and will not use a plenulum and go with about 3 inches of sand. The important thing is to have a lot of...

    Heteractis magnifica slaughter

Lots and lots of alternating current. Feed it tiny amounts every few days. Good luck

    tank costs

I just got a quote for a custom built 48x24x 30 high with 3/4 inch acrylic for near 1300, the 60x24x30 high was 1500. A 30 inch high tank look awesome but requires thicker acrylic and is harder to maintenance on.

    Toadstool Leather Placement

Depends on the type of toadstool. My yellow sacro and my green polyped sacro sit under halides and love it. Intermittent flow that moves the polyps is essential.

What are some signs of when a toadstool is going to die?

Almost impossible to kill kenya tree coral. The more current on it the bushier it will get, then portions will break off and you will have so many you can't give it away. Give it time and it will open up. Put a light current on the toadstool. Sometimes they can stay closed for a week or two...

    Fish compatibility help please

I have a an orchid dottyback. It is aggressive and makes my flame wrasse school with the chromis. My tank is big though and it is no big deal as everything for the most part gets along. In my other tanks I have found they will go after anything purple so I think your slower firefish would try...

    any info on lagoon setups?

I have a lagoon style tank. You still need good flow, but not intense. The key is alternating current like from a sea swirl or wavey sea. The nice thing is you can add fish as long as you don't go crazy. My current tank is a 120 gallon cube that is 30 inches high with a tunze on an oscillator...

    Live rock decisions...oh boy.

check out the rocks from GARF.org no bryopsis algae, no predatory worms , great shapes with holes for plugs, and they are light weight. Everything turns purple in a few months anyways. They may seem expensive but they are the biggest rocks pound for pound. I use the arches and have a large...

    Return Pump suggestions???

Aquarium is a 48L x 24W x 30 High (150 gallon) with a 30 gallon under cabinet sump. Aquarium mainly lagoon style corals (softies, montiporas, staghorn...) I want to hook a return pump from the sump (3-4 feet) to a Wavy Sea device that will rotate 180 degrees on the back wall. I think that...

    new, odd tank growth

Sometimes happens when sometimes dies in the sand and the sulfur/phosphates bind stuff together. If I'm right then it will smell foul. Otherwise try increasing the current in the tank and getting a ton more sand sifters. Good luck

    Urchin spawning stress related?

Urchins will spawn with stress. In science classes they do it with a low voltage current...

    New Cube 36x36x18

I mounted my GARF rocks on PVC legs to keep them above my DSB. They have been great and cover with coraline in no time. this helps to improve flow...

    New Cube 36x36x18

I have a cube 36x30x30, the extra six inches are for the overflow that is along the back wall. For the return I use to have a mag12 but was unhappy with the heat production. I have since switched to a tunze 6100 on an osciwave and couldn't be happier. I have seen my tank with the overflow in...

Suggested NEW tank size for my fish only ?

Only in NYC would you put that many fish in a tank! J/K Congrats on them being able to grow. Tanks above 30 inches in height get very expensive because the acrylic has to be thicker. If you don't rest rocks along the back wall you can probably get away with 30 inch width. a 9 inch tang or...
