    Raising Seahorse Fry

Thanks, Detri. I learned it most of it on the internet. First, you start with an obsessive personality. Then add a person with way too much time on her hands :D (Hubby works nights and I work days, kids are long gone). I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours researching anything...

    Raising Seahorse Fry

Yes, sorry.. the yellow ones are H. comes, common name Tigertails. The others are H. reidi, common name Brazilian. And Elmo... if you think thats bad.. here is a photo of the cultures of greenwater, brine, rotifers and copepods on shelves in my hall, and the second picture of one wall of the...

    Raising Seahorse Fry

Do y'all remember back on 2/22 when wingnut247 (Travis) posted that he was the father of a new brood of reidi seahorses? Well, I ended up with some of those fry who are now 7 weeks old (tomorrow). In the meantime my own reidi has had fry 3 times and Travis's has had more too (every 2 weeks...

Can someone help me with Paypal?? I have a question :)

Nope, I have had in the past but we had a months long bout with some bacteria last summer that took my erectus. Now I have reidi - and the survivors from before - one tigertail, and one barb. The erectus I did have were from DanU (seahorsesource.com) also beautiful and healthy. Bruce and I...

Are you getting them from Bruce? Are they his sugar frosted erectus?

    Sea horses?

Somebody at RC must have gotten confused. The recommendation of at least a 20 gallon tank is for the larger species of seahorse, not dwarfs. The recommendation of no live rock applies to dwarfs only and the reason for it is hydroids (and other possible predatory hitch hikers). Hydroids...

Help! New Dad 100 Sea Horses

Congrats! They will probably have 5 or 6 broods about 15 days apart before taking any real break - could be more. In the wild their breeding season is spring and summer - artificial photoperiods and temps can confuse them in tanks. Pregnancy takes a lot out of the male, and some don't eat...

Saturday night blues....not something you want to happen

Sorry to see this. If there's anything we can do to help just let us know. Vicky & Wally

    Found these today

If they've got 9 legs they are hydroids. You don't usually see them unless there is lots of food available for them (like baby brine shrimp). They sting and can kill seahorse fry and dwarf seahorses but I've never heard of them harming anything else but I assume they could hurt any small...

Help! New Dad 100 Sea Horses

I'm 99% certain that they are Reidi - probably the most difficult fry (because they are the smallest) of the species commonly available - But we're gonna give it our best shot.

Help! New Dad 100 Sea Horses

I went up there Wednesday night and got Travis set up with rotifers, brine, etc. Really enjoyed meeting him and seeing his classroom. Travis was kind enough to share his fry with me. I think I got about 75% of them. Here are some photos from Wednesday night. I magnified the first pic and...

Help! New Dad 100 Sea Horses

They look great.. nice stocky shape. I'm looking forward to this. By the way, you do know that you'll probably be getting new broods every 14-15 days now, right?

Help! New Dad 100 Sea Horses

I can help out. Do you know what species they are? If reidi or kuda it's best to start with rotifers, any other species new hatch brine shrimp - within hours of hatch is best. It's not absolutely necessary that they eat the first day or two (although the sooner the better). I have both...

    Plastic tube feeder

I use a turkey baster to feed my suncoral and to target phyto to my colt coral but the mysis (for seahorses) is dumped into the water and they have a feeding frenzy - they are pretty diligent about tracking down almost every piece along with the pieces the suncoral misses. If there are any...

    Where to find seahorses?

We might be able to arrange that. Last time I was at Aquarium Paradise in Lakewood they had a couple there but they don't always have them. Blue Sierra often has them, but that would be a longer drive for you. Midway Pet also has them on occasion.

    Where to find seahorses?

I would be very careful about listening to anyone who doesn't personally keep them at home. Even what a person thinks they know can become outdated info in a very short time as we are learning so much more about them all the time. The best places for info are www.seahorse.org and...
