    Seahorses born!!!

We use Panacur. Have you read about it? It's a dog/cat/livestock dewormer ... there's alot you need to know if you plan on using it - kills lots of tankmates, etc. If you want more details, let me know and I'll send you a very long message all about it. :)

    Seahorses born!!!

Sure... here are their one month pics. We have 11 left. That's less then what we hoped for but still alot better then none. The last few we lost were due to hydroids... we've killed the hydroids now but a couple fry still look like they might not recover.. we shall see. The brood I was...

    Seahorses born!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy!! Day 17 and we have about 25 still. We seem to be expecting another brood probably on Thursday. Many are hitching regularly now, mostly when lights are off. The live webcam is at: http://www.seahorsecastle.com/webcam.htm Here are a couple of pics I took a couple of...

100 micron poly bags - Are here!!!!

I'm easy too. Might be easier to send to each individually as we might be up to 40 miles apart up here... but either way is fine. Let us know how to pay.. paypal or whatever. :)

    Seahorses born!!!

Hitching depends on the species. Some species hitch at birth others don't start until about 6 weeks. Mine are in the middle... last batch they didn't hitch until about 3 weeks but this brood it seems that some are already hitching.

    Seahorses born!!!

It's the new fry that are a week old today. The snowstorm is brine shrimp, copepods, rotifers, and a cheap cam. They won't be as active after they can hitch. Right now there are bubbles set up in the back that send the water in a ferris wheel motion... that's needed to keep the fry off the...

    Seahorses born!!!

We set up a webcam on the seahorse fry. It's not high quality or anything.. but we think it's kinda cool. Wally has it set up on this website: Streaming Fry Cam We have lost a few the past couple of days.. still have about 90% of them though (compared to last time we only had 30-40% at...

    Seahorses born!!!

They're doing fantastic so far... got fingers crossed it stays this way. We sent about 50 to California and kept 95 here... so far we have only lost one! Last time we had lost 75% by this time. Seems like the next couple of days are critical times, but most of them look great. Most of the...

    Seahorses born!!!

Congrats!! If you've got reidi survivors at two weeks you're doing great! My guys are quite a bit easier then yours. If you ever want to try rotifers as a first food, let me know.. I've always got a bunch of them around.

    Seahorses born!!!

Thanks everyone! I don't really know what to expect on survival rates. We have only had one batch before - with those, we raised 8 past all the fry danger stages.. then lost 4 to "incidents"... so actually 4 of 75 made it to adult. One part of me says we can do better this time... another...

Excellent! Be sure to give us regular updates. And just one thing... it's usually recommended that you not net the fry or expose them to air. Most folks use either a small container to scoop them up or a turkey baster to gently suck them up. Steven - great to hear your guy is doing better, too!

Is it an injury or disease? If it's tail rot it's pretty serious. You'll want to treat in a hospital tank with an antibiotic if there's any sign of infection. If it's an injury you probably want to put a local antibiotic on it.. neosporin or equivalent. Is he hitching?

    Photos of your favorite fish.

Thanks. I actually keep each species in it's own tank. It's necessary with the dwarfs and suggested with the large species. Temp is kept 74-78 (all mine are tropical species - temperates and subtropicals are lower). Salinity is lower than a reef.. dwarfs are at 1.020 and others at about...

We got our first ones over a year and a half ago - we lost several in a short time so we backed off and learned alot and aged the tank got set up better. Then 13 months ago we got offered new fry on the day they were born - we still have 4 of those - my tigertails. Now we have 6 erectus, 5...

I love them all - the clowns, the tangs, I really love my scooter and my lawnmower... but my favorites have to be my seahorses. Here is one of my Tigertails and one of a 17 day old Dwarf.
