I too am a breeder wanna be. Just when I got my nice seahorse tank setup, the new CITES permiting requirements kicked in, and I only had 2 male old timers to put in there. That is good since they are in trouble worldwide, but really increase the price and reduced the availability captive bred. I least I no longer have to ask if they are trained to eat frozen mysis!
All of mine are Reidi (Brazilian yellow) but that is not definative. Two I have had for over 2 years, one male is black with some white (not striped snouted) and the other is a male dull yellow/black. He is mean, and killed some young Kuda I recently got. He bullied them around, and finally wrapped his tail around them for ballast and crushed them to death.
In the past 3 weeks I have got many more. Two really large yellow/black females, and a large dull black female (she got my old timer black one pregnant within days). Just yesterday, I got 2 tiny yellow females, and 2 mated pairs of chalky black (gorgeous).
They are all together in a IAP 60gal 24" cube, cherry stand and canopy, IceCap 400W electronic MH with 14k Hamilton bulb, custom IAP refugium (my design) with Corallife 96W 6500 PC, AquaC EV-180 skimmer, and a big jar of ROWAphos in a Rainbow Lifeguard fluidized bed filter. I also run lots of Purigen, and carbon occasionally. All pushed by a Gorman-Rupp 410 pump. Gee, we all sound like we are describing our souped up '69 Chevy! I should put some stickers on the tank....
I have lots of live rock and macroalgae (cheato, gracillaria, and halimeda), and live sand. The only corals are purple gorgonias. I don't want any potential stings or neurotoxins in there.
Everybody is ravenous for Hikari frozen mysis soaked in Kent Marine Zoe and Zoecon. I lost 4 seahorses last year to what I suspect were parasites in the frozen mysis (a different brand). Look for BioPure, Gamma, or other indication of no parasites. They would be feeding but dead the next day, water quality was great. Who knows. My old timers love live feeders, but that experience stopped me from feeding anything potentially having parasites.
I could go on and on, and write a book about their antics, but I hope I answered your question here of what I have!
