Reefsupply - how many gallon is the nano-cube and how tall is it. Say for a pair of full size seahorses you're gonna need at least 15 gallons and tank should be 3 times the adult height.. about 18 inches or so. If the tank is smaller then that I'd suggest dwarves. There may be some H...

Can You View Your Tank While You Are Surfin Reef Frontiers?

My original seahorse tank is directly beside me ... if I turn I can see the turtle tank, the main reef, the new reef (currently empty), the dwarf seahorse tank, the Clarkii tank and the discus tank but I can't see the other seahorse tank, the nano, the little reef, the shrimp tanks, the...

Hi Oscapus. What species of seahorses do you have? How long have you been keeping them? We are seahorse keepers too, actually breeder wannabes. We have 5 H. comes (tigertails) four of them we raised from day one to now they are over a year old. We also have 6 H. erectus and 10 dwarves plus...

    Injured mandarin

You might try adding Melafix (available at Walmart or LFS) - It has worked well for me with my seahorses with wound/skin problems. It's only Tea Tree Oil.. not actual medicine so you can use it in a community tank. It does make the water tend to foam alot so you can't use a skimmer with it and...

    Pictures terrible

I don't know about that camera, but with mine I take a lot of tank shots with stop action and manual focus. The auto focus never seems to know what it is I want to focus on. Also I take the largest resolution photos then resize them. Best advice is read the manual and try everything.. I've...

    feeding techniques?

With the seahorses, we often use a turkey baster to target feed.

    Puget Sound Tank

We don't have a problem keeping the temp stable, but room temps are stable too at around 71. Tank has a Duetto submersed filter. Right now we're not adding anything into the tank to allow it to cycle - plenty of ammonia already in there at the moment from critters that didn't make it. :(...

    Puget Sound Tank

We have a 10 gallon Puget Sound tank. Wally covered three sides with foam and runs tubing through a small refrigerator that the tank sits on. Temp is 55. We're still working on getting it cycled - it was cycled then we added too many critters too fast and crashed it. Now we're in a start...

    feeding Mandarin Dragonets

Sorry... never took chemistry and your explanation goes way over my pretty little head. But thank you, 'cuz I'm sure those who understand it appreciate it. All I know is that the laundry bleach method turns them cute little eggs orange and there's a very significant reduction of debris...

    feeding Mandarin Dragonets

Sheeesh... that first decapsulation link sure is intimidating. The second link didn't work for me at all. For those who want something a little simpler here is a link to the method I use - http://www.seahorse.org/library/articles/artemiaGuide.shtml The color change can take...

How far do you drive to work? Have the new gas prices affected you?

My little Kia Rio micro-wagon gets almost 30 mpg... good thing since I drive 52 miles round trip daily (Federal Way to North Bellevue). Hubby gets terrible mileage in his Dakota PU but he only goes 18 miles round trip. We figure we pretty much each use the same amount of gas per day.

    Phyto and Rotifer culturing

Thanks Eric! Excellent links. I've had something like that kicking around in my head for quite awhile but I never got as far as the specifics of it. Also, never thought of the surge, I was only thinking of dripping. Maybe I'll actually set something up. Vicky

    Phyto and Rotifer culturing

I'll give it a shot. I feed my rotifers live homegrown phyto. I've tried rotifer foods but find there are always larger particles that they don't eat. The uneaten food fouls the water and is almost impossible to remove (you can't separate rotifers from small particles as everything gets...

    Green water?

I don't own any corals, but I have lots of uses for phyto! My biggest use is for feeding the food, which is what Chris is interested in. IMO, it is the best food/enrichment for rotifers, copepods, brine shrimp, etc. The HUFA content makes it an excellent enrichment. It's live so it won't...

    Green water?

Greenwater is Phytoplankton... single celled algae. "Pond scum" would also be algae but not sure if it's single celled, and I know it's not a saltwater variety. Some people do put tubs of saltwater outside to grow phyto (weather depending). Most phyto can be grown in lower salt than tanks...

    Mandarin troubles, calling all cars...S.O.S....

Just FYI.. FedEx rules state that they do not accept live animals for shipping unless you have a specific contract with them. That way when something goes wrong.. it's your fault because you didn't follow the rules.
