Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!

That's true, but decorating them is a bit difficult. The tinsel never stays on and the lights constantly short out. My hydroponics system is actually in my fish room, so the lighting can be kinda bright. Especially since I use 1000W halides and HPS bulbs over the plants. Clayton

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!

lol, no medicine here. I have an Uncle though who grows the stuff and claims it's for medicinal purposes; but since he has no illnesses we figure he just likes to get high. If it weren't illegal I'd be tempted to grow it just to see how well it would do in my system. I honestly have no interest...

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!

Thanks a lot Krish, now everyone will think I'm a pothead. For the record, I grow vegetables in hydroponics systems; not Marijuana. I have to go now, the DEA is here for some reason... Clayton

    getting cold

I use Ebo Jagers as well. I have a few heaters I've had in operation for over 10 years and they still work perfect. Out of all of the Ebos I've had over the years (many, many dozens) I've only had one go out. That says a lot for the quality of the product in my opinion. Clayton

    getting cold

You can have a bunch of our cold Krish, we're not stingy. :) The tank in my office doesn't have a heater, and the heat is off in the room. Since I'm running three computers in the room, heat isn't usually a problem; but lately the temps have been dropping to about 73, so I suppose I'll put a...

    over feeding / nitrates

RO filters don't produce nitrates even when old, although DI cartridges certainly can. It could be overfeeding, or it could be a spot in your tank where detritus is building. Make sure you change or clean any and all filter pads or socks, and give your rocks a good blowing with a powerhead or...

    Penn and Teller

I've watched the before-mentioned (Bull****) show on Showtime. It's funnier than hell, although not entirely accurate. Clayton

    Krish's Bahamian inspired 90 gal

Hey now Krish, you're beginning to sound like Ken. Do they happen to be pink? Clayton

    LR Curiosity Question

Eventually rocks will fill with detritus and phosphates in all but the lowest-stocked tanks. How long this takes depends on your stocking level, filtration, feeding and water movement. It might take a year, or it might take ten years. It's also not true that cooking rocks in the dark will turn...

    otto fluidised bed filter

As afishyonados said, fluidized bed filters are not ideal for saltwater aquariums. They receive their oxygen directly from the tank water, and due to the massive concentration of bacteria inside the filter they consume every bit of O2 in the water that's pumped through them. The water coming out...

NOOO !!! very sad news :(

Sorry to hear that Gabby. We just lost a cat tonight that we've had for years. It's horrible when these things happen. Clayton

    Krish's Bahamian inspired 90 gal

That looks good Krish. All I use on mine is a 10-watt 6500K CF bulb; and the Chaeto seems to love it. With Chaeto it's best to run it opposite what your tank runs to balance the pH. If you ever add Caulerpa algae then you'll want to run the light 24 hours to ensure it never enters a reproduction...

    power outage/pumps

I'd check it with a good voltage monitor. Our line power here is a solid 120V, and the generator is the same with low load. If I plug-in a couple heaters though it drops and slows everything down. Clayton

    power outage/pumps

Have you checked the voltage coming off your generator? Is it higher than your normal line power? Odd that your power is out, usually we lose it before anyone, lol Hope it comes back quick, Clayton

    LR Curiosity Question

Well said Curt. Rock can take a long time to get to the point where cooking becomes necessary, but overcrowding and/or overfeeding causes the situation to reach the tipping point much faster. Efficient filtration and plenty of circulation will help prevent the need for cooking the rock. As Curt...

    What are these?

Those are harmless bristle worms, no reason to get excited or bother them. They help clean the tank in the same way pods do. Clayton

Does everyone really have 10x-20x flow?

I have 22X on one and 36X on another. The Tunze pumps work great because they create lots of flow without the jabbing tight jet stream that most powerheads and pumps create. The idea is to move water, not give our critters a massage. Clayton

Has anyone used B-Ionic or C-Balance. What were the effects?

Disastrous miscalculations can be made with calcium reactors too. It can take a while to fine-tune the CO2 and effluent rates for example. This is much easier with a pH controller, but it still takes a lot of adjusting to get everything right. The point is to get the pH to a level at which the...
