    Coral Beauty

if he's in a qt tank, a good old fresh water dip will help with parasites...4 minutes in fresh ro/di water (make sure to add a pinch of buffer so the pH is close to 8.3 and the temp is matched) If the pH and temp are matched, he should just lay still at the bottom of the bucket for basically...

How to get rid of Cyano

How long has the tank been set up? What type of lighting/lighting schedule are you running? What type of foods are you feeding. What is your current biolode in relation to the size of your tank? Generally as a start, I recommend to reduce your lighting cycle, find the source of the excess...

    Do peppermint Shrimp eat zoanthids???

camel shrimp can be problematic, I've had peppermints go rouge and pull food out of the mouths of corals such as acans as they begin to associate them as a food source...this pisses the corals off and can cause some problems...are you sure you don't have Z.E.N.? ps...my avatar is an example of...

    LED and SPS

I take care of a 18 reef tanks...12 run on the aquaillumination LED units, one that is rurnning reefbrites, and 5 that are various combinations of t5 and metal halide...i can tell you first hand...sps lost alot of color and polyp extension under the LEDs (both types)...this is not just in the...

Accuracy of test kits and AWT

I've looked into AWT on other forums as well and have seen that they do have a tendency to show lower CA results because of the form in which they are testing for it and the fact that they use probes which have their own host of problems. This still leaves the Alk and MG in ranges that are far...

Accuracy of test kits and AWT

So I just received my second set of results from A.W.T. to compare to the samples that I took at the same time as the AWT samples that were sent in. Given the claims of AWT for accuracy, I am taking their results at the closest to actual values in the tank (although I have read of issues with...

Accuracy of test kits and AWT

I've basically tried at least 6 brands in the last month and they are all significantly off from what the lab tested. I took all water samples from the test aquarium at the same time so there would be consistency in the samples. I tested with each test kit twice and even found that there was...

Accuracy of test kits and AWT

So i've been pulling my hair out over some conflicting results from various test kits. I've purchased salifert, LaMotte, Elos, and sent samples to Aquarium water testing to compare accuracy. I've noticed that salifert, elos and Lamotte tested against the Salifert check solution and the results...

LED Build Show and Tell - Has anyone else built something like this?

this looks like an awesome project...just a side note from my personal experience though in regards to LEDs...tread lightly (no pun intended). I've been running aquaillumination units over 12 different reef systems for the last year for work. Reefs vary from softy only to full blown sps...

    Bleaching rocks..

sodium thiosulfate works well at neutralizing bleach... and when it's rinsed in fresh water after, it can go basically right back into an aquarium...we use to use it for the coral heads that were covered in algae that needed to be cleaned for fish only aquariums

    Attn acan collectors

so I started treatment today....what a pain in the a$%....we had just put 25 cleaner shrimp in our system...not an easy task to catch them. It was a bit more expensive then I imagined but we are treating 1300 gallons...I'll keep you guys posted on results...so far, corals all started feeding...

this is what happens when your tank/corals get around without proper protection :)...it's the equivalent of coral STDs (AEFW, Red Bugs, Monti Nudi's, Zoa Nudi's...and the list continues to grow)

ps...for all of you that are looking for an interesting thread to read, read the above reefcentral thread. The first few pages are blah but it gains steam as it progresses.

    Attn acan collectors

I can't thank you enough for that link. It sounds spot on to what is happening. I did add a new wild colony of acans almost around the time of this issue. I did dip but apparently it wasn't enough. The ironic thing is that the wild colony looks great. My guess is that the aquacultured...

    Attn acan collectors

Sorry for the bold title but I've been an avid acan collector for over 5 years now. As some of you have seen, I have over 90 different color morphs. Up until about a month ago, I've had no issues with the corals, however, in the last three weeks I've seen nearly 75% of my collection blow up...
