    Removing Algae

You didn't mention if the tank is running now or just sitting. Naturally, if it's just sitting scrape it off (razor blade or some other tool) and hose it out. If it's running now and you plan on tearing it down to transport it. Clean it then, same method as above. If the tank is staying together...

    Seams splitting on sump?

Don's spot on here. You should probably get some weldon anyway and apply it around the entire sump just to make sure there isn't any seams starting to split...Easy to use...Just don't drip it on the acrylic other than where you want it. It'll damage the surface asthetically... You don't need to...

whats ur water flow turn over?

Unintended, but thanks. My tank is 42 gallons, 60gallons total water volume. It's the dimensions that create quite a nice flow. 48"L x 16"D x 13"W. Any more than that and it'll be too much for the fish...

I have bubble algae cropping up help!

This is what I do... Take a piece of plastic tubing and shape the end of it to use as a scraper. Shape and size may vary. Use it on the end of your siphon hose to scrape off the Valonia while doing a water change. This will siphon out any spores and loose pieces that try to float away...

whats ur water flow turn over?

FYI---19.5 times per day turnover with 590gph turbulent flow.

whats ur water flow turn over?

Those are both great reads on turbulent flow. Thanks! This quote is a great one from the second link which desribes our inability to delve beyond the common wisdom of current tenents... CONCLUSION: The reef aquarium hobby has a long way to go before our understanding of water flow catches up...

    dead live rock :doubt:

Not knowing the rock or the previous tank would make me nervous. I cured most of my current rock in a cycling barrel for nearly nine months before I put it in my tank...

whats ur water flow turn over?

Over the years I've seen and heard folks consider turbulent flow and or displacement as turn over and I can see how one could draw that conclusion. I however do not subscribe to that line of thinking. Displacement is nothing more than moving water around as in your pancake analogy. But even with...

whats ur water flow turn over?

Matt. I agree, to a degree.:p I alluded to "secondary filtration" to include a sump and a refugium which are not typically considered a "filter" per say so yes "filtration" by the technical meaning has nothing to do with turnover. Nuanced interpretations I would postulate. Turnover...

whats ur water flow turn over?

I'm gonna throw a little monkey wrench into the discussion and say that turbulent flow created by power heads or a closed loop system does not constitute tank turnover. Only tank water that is removed completely from the main tank via an overflow or pumped out of the tank and ran through a...

    hair algae

Scrape and vacuum. It'll grow somewhere else if you don't remove it. Also if the rock was from another tank the ha may be embedded so you may have to brush it off or kill it by starving it with frequent water changes and less feeding, more filtration/skimming etc.

    will my fish destroy these?

Don't always believe what you read. Your fish is the best evidence of whether it's good or bad. Sounds like he likes it. And yes it'll probably spread in the other tank. You'll find out if the Angels will eat it...

    waaaay too much salt

I understand. I guess what I'm saying is before you completely rule out using it for your reef, test it. I'll betcha once your sg is where you want it, other readings will not be far off enough to change you tank parameters to a point of concern....Ultimately....It's up to you, but I'd check it...

    waaaay too much salt

Why not use it for the Reef. You can always add Calcium or Magnesium if it's too far off (It's probably not though). IMO it should not hurt a thing and should be fine for most saltwater systems...

would you agree that my clownfish is smart?

Nifty. I don't the fish would go down into the jar to get the food if they were able to eat their way through the Nori because of the confined opening. Hey! That could be your next experiment. Which fish is the most brave???
