    From my understanding its used to kinda keep the membrane from getting build up in it. I used to always run my unit for a few minutes to get out any water that had been sitting in it out before filling my mixing tank

    You can probably go to your local horse feed/supply store and ask them. They usually have a number of diffrent sizes you can choose from, for a low price. They use them for meds. Good luck

    Indeed...popping them will release more spores. Toothpicks work well in prying them off.

    Do you add your calcium supplement prior to adding your alk supp? If so you should wait at least 15-20 minutes before adding the alk supp. or vice versa. This might be causing the white prec. on your glass. Just a thought:|

    Thanks for the tip about the outdoor/swimming pool area to find the muriatic acid. I wish I had read this thread before I was off to Lowes. They had know clue what I was talking about "what kind of acid?" they replied. pssshhh. Anyway picked up a gallon of vinegar and dumped it into a model1...
