    Catastrophe.

That is my worst nightmare, another friend of mine lost all his fish when his glass heater blew up and released all of the insides of the heater. My bet is your correct about the temp and circulation, the electricity would just flow to a ground exit, and the breaker probably blew fairly...

    Xenias being eaten?

I had a large amount of xenia, and moved my naso tang over to clean up some other algae in the tank with no affect, about a week or so later I dropped in the long spined urchin and I think he is the culprit. He is a pain to move to say the least those little spines hurt when they lodge in your...

    switching tanks

I had a bubble tip really attached to a very porous rock, I pulled it out and scraped him off with my finger nails, there were bits of him still on the rock and at one point I thought I crushed his mouth pulling so hard, I stuck him in the new tank and in a couple of days he looked better than...

how high above the water line should metal halides and PC be?

The closer to the water the less ventilation space to remove heat.. The light isn't going to be affected by air.... But the reflector focus may be. My guess is if the focus is right you could put the bulbs up 100'+ with no effect.. So inches are about the angles of the reflectors and trapping...

    Electrical fires due to aquarium???

Watts / Volts = Amps, the US is 120v, so a 1500 Watt Hair Dryer / 120v = 15 Amps... Thats why bathrooms have to have a dedicated 20 amp circuit.. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything on metal halide wattage as the transformer changes the voltage etc, but... Here is a measurement solution...

Ok i need reefkeeping answers 101

I've had nitrate problems since I decided to go reef (last year) and continue the fight. I have a massive bioload since I converted my fish only to reef (15" lionfish, 7" naso tang, 3" maroon clown, 3" spot damsel, 15" eel). I haven't lost a single fish in the last 4 years. I've done it all...

    Electrical fires due to aquarium???

I am not an electrician, although I have seen a lot of these things over the years and done a bit of wiring.. Electricity load creates heat, when the load creates enough heat it overloads the circuit, and the breaker pops protecting the wire from melting. If you are using small extension cords...

    maxalmon photo journal

Nicely done, are you shooting with an underwater camera or is that through the tank? In the second shot the white balance looks just like real sunlight. Looking forward to some secrets... I've got a Canon SLR with lenses that turn out pretty well, but would love to find out more...

tank installation - best way to set and level on wood floors

Hey Travis, It should be fine, think of what a waterbed weighs...Just elevate the sump on the inside so you can mop up or run a fan.. You'll have a great set up, are you leaving everything else in the basement? And just running a loop to the tank? You could put down a rubber mat, and cut it...
