    anything alive produces waste. pretty normal to just have nitrates, the end product of the cylce probably from live rock, if you have any? only way i know of removing them is through the old fashion water change (like krish suggested), algea exporter, or by denitriying bacteria. yeah, nitrates...

    plan to get a tunze 6000 for my 55g (48x12x18) with the possibility of other maxijets and was wondering if i can get away with a fine sand (.5mm-1.5mm) bed in it without getting sandstorms. if not, is there anything large enough that it won't get blown around like crush coral perhasp? josh
