    The Machine - 3 gallon Pico-reef

Having worked with young children for many years, they are often more able to handle the death concept than most adults. I would encourage you to be frank about the death of the crab. It'll be a lot easier to introduce the topic now than when Grandma goes. My daughter is aware of the life and...

NEW TANG IN QT white spot??

flashing is a sudden movement toward a rock or the sand. generally they're rubbing something irritating their gills. it's a pretty unambiguous movement once you see it. Go to your LFS and watch the tangs for a while. You'll likely see one flash. Good luck with your fish.

What fish would you guys put in a 45 cube?

why can't you keep them with Acans and clams. I've seen them in tanks with both and they seemed just dandy.

A decade of setups + NOW begins 36X40X18 Project ~100gal

Tank is really looking great. Tons of awesome pieces. Thanks for sharing your experiences. May I humbly suggest you put something in front of that black wire that says "Charlotte Pipe" or something in the middle of the back. Having the writing is rather distracting from the over-all look.

    Finally started my 20 tall

That's not a BTA. I think it's a Condylactis. It's the color it's supposed to be. May I suggest you get your power heads a little closer to the surface. The extra surface agitation will increase the oxygen in your water. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Good luck.

What does that product treat for? I've never dipped or quaranteened a coral but I'm thinking I should start. I just have softies and LPS. Thanks, small

    Tank mates for clowns

I'll add that I have a scooter dragonet, a tailspot blenny, a yellow-banded possum wrasse, a trimma goby, a green-banded goby and a bengaii, all in a 20H. Each fish has it's own niche, from my observations and research, none of them needs a lot of swimming room and the bio-load is managable...

    Tank mates for clowns

There are rules and then there are recommendations. Keeping your SG between .21 and .26 isn't a matter of opinion. Nor is putting a tang in a 20g. But there are a lot of grey areas in this hobby and that's part of what makes it so interesting. If it works, it works. Stocking limits is one of the...

Hey there S. Clarki. I'm trying to accept your kind offer of "friendship" but I can't figure out how! I'll keep working on it. Peace, small

    Fang Blenny

May have to start with frozen mysis, etc. and train to pellets. So far, my fish have been hit or miss when it comes to pellets. But everybody loves mysis. I don't believe it's known to be a "difficult to feed" fish. This is all speculative but grounded in observation and research. They're a cool...

    Jawfish

I would think if you could get a mated pair, it could work. That's basically a guess but I'm guessing it's correct.

pro's con's to buying a mandarin that eats prepared foods?

I think it is fair to say there is some reasonable debate about the possibility of sustaining a manderin on prepared foods alone. It's not as black and white as many people make it out to be any more. I was just reading a post by Lee that suggested it's possible to maintain a trained manderin on...

    trying to pick a fish....

I just got a Royal Gramma and it's a beautiful fish. Eats well. Out all the time. I know they're common, but they're great. I'd stay away from Dottybacks as they can be jerks from what I've read. Hawkfish can eat small shrimps if you have any or plan to. Also, a Benggai Cardinal might be nice...

Euthanasia -- Putting a Marine Fish Down

No need to take it so personally sblvr, I'm just trying to make a principled argument. And a spiritual one at that. I acknowledge that fish are fish, they're not dogs, and sh*t happens. I'm not trying to be all high and mighty. I've frozen a fish! But I wouldn't now after reading Lee's article...

Euthanasia -- Putting a Marine Fish Down

That's cool, referdude. What I'm saying is basically the buddhist idea of easing suffering. Death and killing are not a moral problem per se. Every living thing kills to survive. As conscious beings, we should be doing all we can to eliminate suffering, even it's when we're killing something...
