Euthanasia -- Putting a Marine Fish Down

This isn't about death and it isn't about humans feeling sad. It's about ending a fish's life with the least suffering possible. If you can't accomodate that now that you've read Lee's very thoughtful article, I think you should find a hobby that doesn't involve living creatures. You're frankly...

    Red Pygmy Goby MIA

A little 5.5 gal, hob filter and heater wouldn't take up much room. You could easily QT a wee goby in that. Since I've started to quaranteen religiously, I don't have any more of those "where's my new fish?!?" moments. QT is for more than just disease. I bet you see your fish sooner than later...

Pearly Jawfish staying in its hole

Thanks, Lee. The jawfish ate a couple big bites of frozen formula 1 yesterday which pleased me greatly. I'm hoping it's on the mend. Still hiding most of the time, but eating is good!

Pearly Jawfish staying in its hole

Seeing a bit more of the fish the last two days at feedings. Today I think it ate a couple pieces of mysis. I have not treated the fish in any way at this time. I suspect constipation and am trying to get some fatty foods into it. Does anyone suspect the frozen blood worms (I was told by a...

Pearly Jawfish staying in its hole

Thank you for your response, Lee. The jawfish has been in the tank for nearly a year, so I would guess it did/has acclimated well. I feed frozen mysis, prawn roe, cyclopeeze and blood worms 1-2 times daily. The jawfish's body weight looks good. I've seen it twice yesterday and today. It poked...

Pearly Jawfish staying in its hole

Greetings friends. My lovely little pearly jawfish has been staying in it's burrough 99% of the time for the last week or so. It will come out when I feed but doesn't eat hardly anything. It's belly looks ever so slightly distended and at one point it's anus seemed to be protruding a tiny bit...

Getting rid of red slime algae

I've battled it recently. I removed as much as I could by hand. Also added about 15 small nasarius snails to turn the sand. Added a power head. None of these really helped. Got new bulbs for my pc lights. Also dosed 1/2 dose chemi-clean (after thorough manual removal). Seems to have done the...

I think I am not meant to be a hobbyist

That lighting sounds pretty on target. How often do you do water changes? Try 20-25% once a week. Good luck. Try to think of it as "fun" to figure out your tank.

    Anyone ..

Oh crap. I'm totally wrong. They are Stomatella! I just looked at some pictures. Someone had told me they were limpets.

    Anyone ..

I would suppose they are Limpets. I had a couple come in on my live rock. I've actually seen them spawn which was pretty crazy. They kind of rear up on the back of their foot and shoot clouds of gametes into the water. The first time I saw it I was all, "What the?!?". It appears a few of their...
