    hair algae

OK The equipment Your skimmer. What is it? Your water changes How much and how often? Also what do you feed? A person must understand how algae grows, what it feeds on, and at what its weakness is. Remember- when you feed your fish you feed the algae.

    hair algae

You would be amazed at what little it takes to support the growth of algae. IMO If you like to feed your tank then a lot more (volume) WC and a much better skimmer.

    Changing substrate

Siphon out the CC part by part and slowly add the sand. It will look like a nasty mess but it does clear up in a day or two.

    hair algae

Im sorry but I think this statement is incorrect. If you have algae growing then something is off. If you want to keep feeding with the same schedule you are using then I would look into a much better skimmer and more water changes.

Question on flow -- Dart closed loop VS. Tunze Streams

I use the dart for a closed loop. Cant see any pumps hanging in the tank. Flow?? a lot The way my nozzles are set they hit each other and the flow becomes random. True you can see how the coral grows and notice the water pattern by the growth but for me that adds character to the tank. The only...

How to deal with Power Outages...

Generator Power outages are usually short lived. Yes they are noisy but you will not be running it for weeks on in. OR you can get the quiet Honda ones big enough to run your pumps and heat that you will never be bothered by.

    Pumps, returns, and over flows.

HMM Depends on your equipment I guess when it comes to pump size. You dont want to push too much through your sump at one time. You need to allow enough time for the skimmer, chiller, reactors, ect to do their job. I run a PCX-40 as my return valved down 50% on 180G total volume (110G main tank)
