    Just sharing

That 75 sure cleaned up nice and is sure looking good! Becky and I just redid our aquascape last night on ours...talk about a project. Much more open now with better flow. Take care, Dave

Which Tunze wavebox controllers & Tunze pumps & how many

To close-loop or not to close-loop...a lengthly debate indeed. I'm in the middle of upgrading to a 300 Starphire from my 160 and after doing a lot of reading on various methods of flow I'm inclined to go the closed loop route. It seems to come down to personal preference more than anything inb...

    RO/DI Filter Orientation

I'm running a Spectrapure w/ 4 DI units - all vertical. I don't think I've ever seen one mounted horizontal. I think there may be a disadvantage of going horizaontal for that type of filtration since it would allow more surface area for the HOH resin beads to settle on the lower side resulting...

    I got crabs

Yea...I used to get them in on live rock I collected when I was diving. I'd stay up all night with a skewer hanging over my tank just waiting for the chance to nail the suckers. After getting pierced they'd commence to do the jitterbug and get taken apart by the scavengers...it was quite a...

    ricordia growing but not splitting

Would love to see a pic of this - I normally see mine split much earlier!

Good on you...you're tank is looking great!

    Is this too much lighting?

Totally agree - 250's are perfect for your setup. Now if you were running 1000w on Luminarc's maybe there would be an issue...

    Green Hair Algae

This has been a great thread for me. I'm in a little different situation - with a 6 yo tank and deep sand bed in some places - and about 18 months of virtual neglect... (Had a huge SPS tank meltdown that left a sour taste). I'm finding every piece of advice in this thread is truly valid as...

    Fastest in wall ever

Great tank and very impressive growth! I've never seen a Blue Tort forest like that - too cool!

    SPS lighting

    Have to agree w/ amashun...I'm running 400w 20K XM's on a 27" deep tank and it's perfect. I've gone through 150 - 250's to get to this point.

    Neon Goby vs. Cleaner Shrimp

I'll take a neon Goby any day!

    Help! Torch coral

Ohh boy..."the ol' bare bottom debate" - watch out! Lots of opinions on that one. All kidding aside though - I would suggest looking through some of the larger forums and researching the bare bottom debates. For your situation though I think it is a viable alternative to consider.

    Skimate

Yea - it's tough to "rate" skimmate unless there is a bioload to measure it against. FWIW, I have a Euroreef 6-2 that produces about an inch of skimmate every 3 days...probably since I feed a bit heavy with my 160 gal.

    4x2x2 SPS LPS reef project

    Ditto - good design!

    Red Bug Treatment/experienced losses?

Wow...I can only hope I never have to contend with these types of Red Bug infestations. Before my major SPS crash I think I had them...but they never had such ill effects on my SPS colonies that it warranted treatment.

    a couple questions

Great points - My advice is to look at some of the showtanks you see out there on Reef central and model your lighting to tanks that most closely match the depth of your setup. I've gone through the gambit in keeping SPS when it comes to lighting. Currently running 400w MH XM 20K's w/ VHO's...

Time to share my tank tragedy

Wow - your critters went on an Antarctic excursion...and lived to tell the tale. I would've thought 59F for any length of time would be much more deadly. Amazing how resiliant our reefs can be!
