Developing stock list for 140 FOWLR

Lee - Thanks again for your input. It is very helpful. By "medium" angel, I should have been more clear. I am referring to species like Annularis, Clarion, King, etc. that grow to a "max" of about 8" in the wild. I may go with something even smaller, depending on availability.

need help with my plumbing PLEASE

You can also use the tee back to the sump to run a UV sterilizer, if you choose to run one. It all depends on the flow rating of the UV and what you are actually returning to the sump. Basically a free pump.

Developing stock list for 140 FOWLR

Lee - I have now purchased the tank and will be setting it up over the next few months. I went with a 120 (4x2x2), but have not nailed down the filter/supm yet. Anyway, based on yours and others comments, and additional research on my part, please take a look at the revised stocking list...

    The 120 FOWLR has begun!

The RO, RK2 and ATO all came in Friday! I will be working in the garage this weekend getting everything set up, including water storage tanks, and QT. I will post some pics then! I take the cabinet door to the wood shop tomorrow for matching! Can't wait!

    Getting a 120g!!!

It's a PITA to get to. You have to go under the new elevated entry to the Hathaway Bridge. The first time I went, I ended up across the bay and had to turn around!

    Getting a 120g!!!

Ron - Was it SunCoast? I used to deal with them (Eric) when I lived in Destin. By the way, coming into town this weekend and would love to see your set up, if you have time.

    The 120 FOWLR has begun!

Well, after dismantling my 55 reef in May of last year while moving from Florida to Alabama, setting up a temporary 10g nano in the apartment while building a house, and moving into the new house and transferring from the 10g nano to a 12g Nanocube DX, I have finally started work on the new...

    RO/DI questions

I just ordered the Ocean Reef +2 from "The Filter Guys", along with my ATO and Reefkeeper 2. Excellent customer service. Great pricing. I would go with them also!

2 return pumps into 1 line??????

Scooterman - Thanks so much for your help and replies! I didn't think about the check valves. I will probably have to use 2 over the top returns (don't trust check valves in salt), as I definitely want to have 2 pumps (still will tie the sumps together). Thanks again.

2 return pumps into 1 line??????

In designing my 140 FOWLR, I have determined that I want 1 corner overflow. I can get a custom from the LFS that has 3 bulkheads (will discuss the size of the bulkheads with them later). My plan is to use 2 sumps (1 fuge and 1 actual sump) that will be tied together at the return chambers to...

Developing stock list for 140 FOWLR

Lee - Good point on the conch. I can probably just use a small variety of snails and maybe ONE linckia after the tank matures for 9 months or so. Regarding the angel, I would like to permanently house the fish in this tank. I do not plan on increasing tank size anytime soon, so would...

Developing stock list for 140 FOWLR

Ok. I have been working on this for several months now, and am starting to get my ducks in a row. I have decided on a 140 Oceanic (48x24x29) and will be using my "old" 2x150 HQI 20K fixture. I am still debating to run 1 or 2 sumps (will be tied together at the return chambers of course), but...

    FOWLR lighting...

I am still debating the stock list, but likely an imperator angel, a naso tang (not sure on the color yet), a snowflake, and maybe something else. Yeah, let me know when you get it runnung! Unfortunately, we moved to Birmingham last may (need to update sig), but I can guarantee that I will be...

    FOWLR lighting...

Yeah, this will stay fish only. I now have to travel some for work and the wife needs to be able to take care of ti fairly easily when I am gone. The tank is going to be 4'x3'x2'(deep).

    FOWLR lighting...

I am in the planning stages of a 150 FOWLR (4' tank). I am looking at T5-HO for the lighting (don't want VHO because of heat and bulb life). I like the "blue" look so I was planning on using the UV 14K bulbs with Icecap ballasts. My question is regarding watts/gallon. I was thinking of the...

    FOWLR Flow Rate?

So I'll go with a Barracuda on the Cl, with at least 4 1" outlets, lilely 6-8. On the sump return, I will look at a Tarpon, pending the head calcs. On your CL, do you have any loc-line inside the returns, or just flow straight from the bulkheads? Who makes a decent 2-way wavemaker, like the...

    FOWLR Flow Rate?

Thanks for the info! Great help! I will be ordering the tank in about 3 weeks and plan on having 2 suctions and 4 returns in the CL. Regarding the Dart, and pending head calculations, I should be able to mount it on the floor of the stand, beside the sump return pump, correct? Or would I...

    FOWLR Flow Rate?

Scooterman - Sorry for the lack of clarification! I will be designing the overflow, bulkheads, etc to handle around 1000gph (6x or so) for the sump return. What about additional flow? I am debating on setting up a closed loop, just to keep from using powerheads, but am not real sure what...
