    Reef Keeper 2 Users

I am told the Cat5 connecting cable is not reliable at increased lengths (like my 25'). I don't know much about Cat5, but does that sound right?

    my birthday

So it was my birthday and what would any self respecting reef enthusiast get for his birthday??? Well my wife said "it has something to do with your aquarium". My heart was racing...was it a new hood, that new skimmer, some coral, a gift certificate at the LFS??? She walks in with a colorful...

Looking for a tank sitter while on vacation

It might not be a bad idea to have a place to list some emails for people who can help out others as tanks sitters. ( i.e. "Tank Sitters Available" ) If anyone needed someone to check on a tank near me (in covington or Kent) I could probably help if I am in town. Just email (I charge in wine...

    Reef Keeper 2 Users

I have a reefkeeper 2 and I am just about to set it up on my system. My question is regarding the wiring. My dilema is that I have my sump in my garage about 25 feet away from the tank. I want to install the reefkeeper II display near my tank and run the lights, and PH and temp Probes, but I...

Do I need any padding under a glass tank on a hard surface

If I go with a glass tank and build my own maple cabinet stand, would I need to put a piece of padding on the hard countertop surface under the tank? Let's say the top of my stand was granite, tile or even formica, what is the best way to ensure an even weight distribution and avoid possible...

    lighting plan for a 36" x 20" tank (22" depth)

Anyone have ideas on lighting a 36"x20"x22"tall elos style open tank? I would like to hang a luminarc 3 mini with a 250W reeflux 12K and two T5 actinics housed in a lightweight maple (shaker style to match the stand) canopy. So the canopy is suspended over the tank, but not have so much light...

sound off on the best way to run calcium additions on a simple system

yes reeferdude, probably a good simple way. I want to understand the best way to automate, but ultimately if it can't be bulletproof then I may just rely on the "hand-draulic doser" (me) maybe after all of this, I find the best way for me is a very high quality peristalic dosing pump and...

sound off on the best way to run calcium additions on a simple system

Thanks Don, For some reason I thought people were using calcium reactors in line with their auto top-off systems. But you say it is fed Salt water and then effluent is returned back to the sump. How do you recommend running it? what pump.., Do I need to control it by controlling water flow or...

sound off on the best way to run calcium additions on a simple system

I have my little tank slated for a "removal to a good home" (my new system is planned to be about 70 gallons and 90 gallons total volume with the sump). I want to have more of the stony corals and some softies. I have been fighting myself in keeping the calcium and alkalinity stable and would...

    Test Kits Comparison

I would add that your test kits accuracy may also depend on the accuracy (and consistency) of your measure of salt water you are testing. How accurate are those white lines marked on the vial or those plastic syringes? I am going to buy a pipette to dispense for my test kits and throw all of...

    Elos Products Available Online

I think I need to come down and get some elos test kits from you this weekend. My nitrate and phospate kits are not so good. one came without instructions and one kit was missing the reagent to do the high sensitivity test. I pulled the instructions from online, followed them and it showed...

I would buy some of the reefers best salt if you sold it at the store. I hear it is good stuff. (Expensive..., but good and I like throwing money at my aquarium anyway...)
