    Bulkhead question

Hey, I'm about to order bulkheads off of bulk reef supply. Just needed to know which is the best out of all their options. Thread x thread, slip x slip, etc. Here's a link. Bulkheads - Bulk Reef Supply Thanks in advance!

    Blue dot sea hare

So I saw a blue dot sea hare today at an LFS and he completely fascinated me. I was curious if anybody has any experience keeping them. I've been looking them up all day but information on them is a little sparse. I don't have my main tank up yet, which will be a reef, but I have a 14 gallon set...

    First sump design

Are there any reactors that would be recommended for my set up? Originally I wasn't planning on worrying about them until later, but the more I think about it, the more I realize it would be easier to worry about them now rather than later.

You mean in between the baffles? I did allow for an inch between each one, or do I need to make it bigger? Sorry the picture came out so blurry, I don't know why it scanned that way. And is 1" on each side of the skimmer enough or should I space that out more?

    First sump design

Finally found the time, or made the time, to re-do the sump plan. So here it goes, hopefully it makes sense. It's too late to tell if I'm being coherent.

    Recommended skimmers?

Hey guys, I was just curious what type of skimmers people would recommend. My tank is 90 gallons. As far as corals it will probably be mostly softies and LPS. The skimmer would be in the sump, I don't have room for a huge one, the top of my doors are 23.5" tall. Somebody from the LFS told me...

    First sump design

Are there any safety measures that I'd have to take to prevent a flood?

    First sump design

Alright, so I've done a lot of reading today on different drain methods. I think I'm going to go with herbie, because I want it to be as quiet as possible. However, I haven't been able to find a good step by step DIY link to one. So let me see if I'm understanding this correctly. You have two...

    Thrawn's planning/build

Would plywood across the entire back be better?

    Thrawn's planning/build

I've got 2 10" pieces of plywood that are going to go on the back corners(you can see them sitting inside the stand in the pic) and then I've got a 2x4 to put in the center of the back as a brace.

    Thrawn's planning/build

Thanks, it was fun, I'm glad we were able to work on it together. I was referring to it being all black except the doors. I don't think it's the same stain. What do you mean skin the back?

Thanks! That's a good rule of thumb, I hadn't heard that before.

Well, if I rotated the skimmer to shrink that section, and then shrunk down the return, I could get the fuge up to at least 20 gallons. Would that be enough? Also, where is the best place to put a heater?

    Thrawn's planning/build

Thanks Krish! The back is completely open so I'll slide the sump in through there. Didn't even think about removable sides, that would have been a nice feature...

    Thrawn's planning/build

Update, finally! Got the stand built, painted, and stained! Not bad for a first stand eh? Though I must admit, most of it was my grandpa. If only I could build a stand out of Legos... Anyway, sorry to Eric(Eww) for stealing the color choices from him. Originally the whole thing was going to...

90 Gal. mixed softie zoo tank

Wow, beautiful tank. I'm starting up a 90 gallon reef tank right now and toadstool is one of the corals I'm really looking forward to keeping. I actually had no idea they got that big...

    First sump design

Planning on splitting the drain line, 75% through the skimmer, 25% through the fuge? What would be an acceptable size for the fuge? At those dimensions, compensating for guestimated baffle thickness, it'll be about 9 gallons. That definitely sounds smaller than I thought it would be. How big...
