    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Hey Ron, I was just looking over your design again, and I had a couple of comments: It looks like your intake plumbing comes over the top of the tank and then goes down into the pump. If so, don't forget to prime the line comletely (no air in the input line at all) with water the first time...

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Yep, back to the drawing board. I have to tee the line before going over the top just because of the way the cut-out are in the back of my canopy. What do you do if you have to take the canopy off for some reason? Do you have Unions up towards the top so you can remove the manifold if needed?

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Nice job Ron! Looks great, now I'm going to have to redo my design to get more flow. I should've use 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" PVC for the header now that I've seen yours. -David

    Skimmer opinions for 180g

If you're leaning towards the EV180, you should also look at the EV240 if it will fit. You don't need a John Guest fitting unless you're using Ozone or have a calcium reactor. I use it to drip effluent (very low PH - high carbonic acid) from my calcium reactor into my skimmer. The...

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Hey Ron, use lots of silicon on the barbed fittings, and then with the pump on the floor, insert as much of the hose onto the barb, and use your body weight to get it to go the rest of the way. I would double check your pvc outputs on your manifold. You want a certain amount of flow per...

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

KC - First things first, do you really want 3600 gal/hr running thru your sump?   Anyhoo, too much pump for (2) 3/4" outlets. You won't need a ball valve on the output side if you do that, b/c you're going to lose 50% of your water flow with that design. If you try and...

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Hey Ron, I'm still having problems visualizing your plumbing set up. If you want, explain what your plans are for CL and overflow/return from sump setup are going to be so we can help with unnecessary head loss. Like: CL: pump output: 1 1/2"--1 1/2" union--1 1/2" Ball--barbed fitting to 1...

    Skimmer opinions for 180g

EV's like many skimmers go dead when putting your hands in the tank, feeding some foods that are oily, etc. The biggest thing about this skimmer, is that you really need to keep the water level in the sump at a consistent height, and the skimmer needs to have nearly zero microbubbles before...

    Please Don't Trade Red Bugs!

I'm of the mindset to not take anyone's word when it comes to live purchases. You can't see most of the things that will come in on live purchases anyway. Even if the LFS says they quarantine, always assume livestock you buy is invested with something, and treat/dip/quarantine before putting...

    Skimmer opinions for 180g

DaBrowns, sounds like your planning ahead. What's your criteria for skimmer space, and $$$? Internal or external skimmer? If you go with the EV series, get the 240 at least. -David

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

I use flex as well. Pump vibrations can transmit thru PVC and cause excessive noise. So, I use it at the pump intake just after ball/union which is directly attached to pump. It comes out of the pump horizontally and sweeps upward 90 deg with the natural bend of the flex. Then, I have two 1...

    Skimmer opinions for 180g

I have an EV-180 on my 150. I'd rate it at about 7.5. I don't have a hair of algae, but can't seem get rid of my Valonia (grape looking algae) and I maintain 0 nitrates/phosphates. So, non-scientifically, it works to remove the bad things, and it fits in a smaller sump space, but it could be...

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Hey Kirk, Pressure rated pumps are designed for applications that have back pressure like protein skimming. This is a closed loop design where there isn't any back pressure or flow resistance against the oncoming force of water. Hope that helps. :)

Algea has me close to getting a gun!!!!

yes, need more info here. This is all about nutrient import/export. Import: How is it being added? (frozen foods - rinse thoroughly, water processing-RO, bottled conditioners, salt mix used, your hands, anything that enters the water at all. Treat this like your in a biohazard situation, and...

    Sequence Dart for closed loop

Also use a Sequence pump for CL, but use the Barracuda with (2) 1 1/2" intakes, and split those out to 8 loc lines total. This pump is massive, like a sowing machine, but it's the best pump considering noise, flow, heat exchange, longevity and reliability. I've use Iwaki, Blueline pressure...

    Stand reinforcement

Good point Dennis, along with that you should place perpendicular to the floor joists to help support the underside as well. I had to double up on my floor joists, because they're only 2x8's and not 2x10's, and I have a 150 gal tall (4x2) which puts more weight per sq ft. -David

    Skimmer-Pump question

Reefgirl, it sounds like you're open to using a internal pump like the Rio for your skimmer. For reliability issues I've experienced on several Rio 2100's and 2500's i'll never use one again. The Iwaki 40RLT/RLXT's are much noisier model, because of the fan used to cool the motor. Panworld's...

    I am finally going BIG!!

Hey Moortim, you should be more than fine with 1500 gal/hr going thru the sump. Are you using two pumps to do two separate CL's? Also, doing two "like" pumps for your return would give you reduncancy, and a quality pump like Iwaki or Panworld, etc. would give you long life (peace of mind)...

    Please Don't Trade Red Bugs!

I just recently purchased Intercept from my vet. It was very easy, I didn't need to have a physical for my coral first. But, I have a good relationship with my vet, and my dog is famous in his office, because he's the only dog in his 27 years of practice that he's seen from Wa state...
