Best magnet cleaners for acrylic tanks?

Wow, this thread come up at just the right time. I just ordered the hammerhead, and I currently use a mag float that really isn't meant for 1/2" acrylic. I like the diaper idea, but may get funny looks from friends if they see diapers around and I don't have kids:eek: Good info, you may...

    I am finally going BIG!!

Sounds like a great system Tim! Congrats!! One thing thought, NEVER put halides over the acrylic bracing. They should be positioned directly over the cut-outs in the top of the tank. So you would have three after repositioning your seaswirls. -David

    What size of CO2 tank?

As a side note, since I'm already looking at purchasing my second Ca reactor in the next year or so to keep up with Ca demand, I would look at the fluidized reactors or recirculating designs for their efficiency. A second chamber is also good for removing excess CO2 from the effluent, and...

    Sock or not to sock........

If they're the mesh style with draw string that might be a good compromise (200 microns vs 250). Too bad it more than doubles the price though. I do like the size better (4 x 14) for my sump style.

    Sock or not to sock........

Sounds good. I'm interested in seeing what's out there in the 200 micron range.

    Sock or not to sock........

That's a great site! The timing is great, because they have the mini light I need for my refugium. I would group buy, but not sure if that works if I'm buying a light fixture as well, and how that works living in different areas. PM me if it's still do-able, cuz I think I'm starting to get off...

    Sock or not to sock........

Where did you buy your 200 micron sock? I'm looking for a larger micron sock or filter media bag. I've only found 300 micron filter media bags though, and I'm not sure if that will do the trick. I don't like how much the socks filter out.

    Cycling question

Jerry, "Ideally" everyone would quarantine everything including inverts as well. Don't quarantine together though, because of medications used for fish. Again, this is the "ideal" recommendation to prevent undesirable additions to your main display.

    Sock or not to sock........

I tried added baffles to the sump, but didn't do as good a job as the filter sock for removing bubbles, because I have a smaller sump (sump envy):( and with less contact time, the smaller bubbles would still return to the main. I agree, that using them will remove some beneficial organisms...

    Anyone use Dolomite?

I need to supplement additional Magnesium, and I already use a Ca reactor, but Korallith media doesn't supply enough Mg for my tank. My current readings are about 1100, and I have to supplement constantly using Seachem Mg (which is a good product), but I cannot maintain the recommended 1300 mg...

    Cycling question

You can probably add them in small amounts if you feel your system is stable. Astria snails are pretty lame as far as actual clean-up is concerned. Try one or two turbos to start out with, but make sure you quarantine everything for 4-6 weeks prior to introducing them into your main display...

    Cycling question

Hey jerry, how long has it been since you first starting curing your rock? How's your protein skimmer performing? I made the mistake of not rinsing of the 175 lbs of LV I cured with fresh SW or examining the LV before putting into quarantine. Luckily, I didn't get anything unwanted...

    Lets talk closed loops....

Hammerhead rocks! Low heat, low noise, lots of flow! Many pics of CL designs and articles with Q & A from other reefers on wetwebmedia.com. That's where the "Calfo Manifold" design is for example, and is what I use. -David

    water loss

I agree too much, I evap about 2 gal/day with (2) 250 watt halides, (3) VHO's on a 150 gal. Must be fans blowing across the water somewhere if you haven't noticed the carpet wet yet, or you're getting 2 gallons of skimmate daily. I evap'd about twice what I do now before I bought a chiller.

    Cycling question

Hey Jerry, not a pro, but we need more info, like are you using RO/DI? Have you tested your make up water as the source? What are you using for test kits? How old? What are you testing for? Why such a large water change? Changing out such a large volume of water would be like taking all...
