    Freshwater question

Okay, I struggle with them too, more often than not the freshwater fish seem to not make it. I'm trying another dose of the melafix, after a partial water change since the bottle says its okay. Maybe there is hope, since the first treatment I did helped alot and fast. Thanks anyways!

    Freshwater question

Lee, Not sure if you have freshwater fish, or do advice for them but I have a question on one I have been treating in a hospital tank. Its a Serpae tetra and had bulging eyes, red gills ect.. I pulled it out and have been treating it with melafix. The treatment has worked very well, to a...

    Sump size for 75 gal

More questions Okay... so of the two predrilled holes in the bottom of the overflow, which one is usually the drain? Largest or smallest? Do you need some sort of check valve on the return side? The pods in the refugium, do you scoop out some from there to add to the main tank? I would...

    Sump size for 75 gal

Good advice. I've been trying to figure it all out and get ideas so this helps alot! If the refugium is separate, is it plumbed in the main system still? I saw a link somewhere where it was suggested that the water coming from the tank be diverted, part going the refugium, part the skimmer...

    Sump size for 75 gal

Yes, that is exactly what I have. Where do the anti-siphon holes go? I was looking at kits you can get like this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=12078&prodid=23429&catid=1286 and seeing about getting the parts cheaper at Lowes.

    Sump size for 75 gal

Ah that makes more sense on how much water to put in. My tank is the 75 all glass with the predrilled megaflow. The holes are in the bottom. How do I tell what size bulkheads to use? Measure the holes or are they standard? I had planned to make a sump out of an old tank. The one I...

    Sump size for 75 gal

So.. If I understand all Im readin, if the power goes out, or the return pump stops the tank will only drain so far if I plumb it correct. But the sump must hold the normal volume plus the extra that will drain down right? How do you tell what the correct water level needs to be? I see you...

Can you tell Im bored today? New pictures of my 30 gallon tank, about five months old now. My goby peeking out. Cant see him as well behind that pesky green on the glass. Shot of my urchin who likes to decorate himself. The new tank in the works. Stand is made, still need doors and to do...

    Melafix

I decided to try it out on the freshwater. The bottle is 8 oz or 237 ml. The API website lists the contents as active ingrediants of the 1% oil. It does not list what the rest of the mix is. so I've made up a mix of 1% of the oil to 99 water and am trying it on my fresh tank. The...

    Melafix

Does anyone use this product and know what the difference between the freshwater version and the saltwater one is? I have used the melafix for fresh a couple of times on freshwater fish with good results and once with a saltwater fish that had a mouth wound. It says on the bottle it contains...

    Banggi Cardinal fish/ mouth wound

Woo hoo! Lee, Well a partial sucess! I was able to get the Cardinal to eat some clam/shrimp mix! I bought some clams and larger raw shrimp from the store. I minced the shrimp once I peeled it. The clams I had to steam a bit to get open. Maybe there is a better way on that to get them open...
