    Cool...read this.

Interesting, althogh it seems from what I've read that TDP is perhaps more energy efficient now that some of the kinks have been worked out. -Dylan

    Feeding my Stingray

Now that you got your answer, am I allowed to make Steve Irwin jokes yet? Or is that still too recent to be anything but poor taste? :P -Dylan

    Heaters

http://www.automatedaquariums.com/ranco.htm I just picked the first link that came up. I'm sure there are other places to get one. The Ebo Jager's can be found in many places, although they are just laballed "Jager" now I believe. -Dylan

    Heaters

Won brothers heaters are notoriously unreliable. (Actually the thermostats on most heaters are notoriously unreliable) I'd reccomend an Otto heater controller (external thermostat) for controlling the temp on any heater you get. Just set the heater slightly higher than the controller is set...

Most Common Mistake you see....Please add one and move on so all can share..

Spending too much time arguing on message boards instead of looking at your reef tank. :P Ok, actually, I'd say overstocking is far and away the most common issue I see. (And "They'll just grow into the tank" is the usual way it gets rationalized. :/) -Dylan

    diy stand generator program

I used that for a 50G breeder stand. It works decently well, but consumes a giant amount of space under the stand using 4x4 lumber for anything smaller than a 75 or so. (I probably still wouldn't follow their plan for a 75 either, there'd be no way to get the sump under there.) -Dylan

    Element Seattle

I used to be a regular there on Fridays (only night with music I liked) in my clubbing days. Nice place, always possible to get on the guest list if you know where to look. Drinks are pricy though. :( I do miss going out on occasion, I don't have the opportunity to wear my crazy expensive...

    peppermints and feathers

They do? None of mine have ever touched any of my feather dusters. It might be hit and miss I guess. -Dylan

    New macro lens...

Very nice! That truly is an amazing lens. Bear in mind that your depth of field is already extremely narrow and will only get moreso with extension tubes. No reason it wouldn't work, but with the low light in a reef already you might find yourself taking every shot at ISO1600. -Dylan

    PFO's Solaris LED System; Tested

The light penetration thing is an interesting point. Would be nice if we could see a comparison of light falloff between these and a MH down to 30" or so (since that's the deep end of what people usually keep). They do say that SPS can be kept down to about 18", and softies down to about 30"...

    PFO's Solaris LED System; Tested

The biggest issue I think I have is that it appears these doesn't appear to have a wide enough dispersion for a tank wider than 18" or much deeper than 24" for SPS if I'm reading it correctly. Looks like it might be nice for sane sized tanks though! -Dylan

    Mystery algae ID requested

Its a calcerous algae. I had one in my tank for a short time, but it seems to have disappeared. uwscotch has a bunch in his and was able to tell me a little more about it. Apparently breaking it off will cause it to spread, but otherwise its not particularly virulent. I haven't been able to...

    Dendronepthya, common name carnation

Anthony Calfo (and others) have repeatedly stated that this coral will not survive in captivity, along with non-photosynthetic gorgonians and the like. There simply isn't a way to deliver enough of the appropriate amount of food (whatever that actually is, nobody seems quite sure) to the coral...

    Evaluation of Adobe Lightroom

I've been talking up Pixmantec's RawShooter Essentials for a while as a great free RAW conversion software suite. Unfortunatly, it turns out they've been bought by Adobe. They plan to integrate some of the RSE engine into later versions of their Lightroom product, so I downloaded the Windows...
