    Moonlights: Good, bad, ugly?

No argument with that. I like them primarily for aesthetic reasons. I have nothing in my tank that could breed anyways short of snails, so it serves no purpose other than letting me see some of the tank at night. I suppose my goal is to find the least damaging way of doing that. -Dylan

    toothless overflow

I don't like the mesh because it catches detritus and needs to be cleaned much more frequently than the ones with teeth. However, it does get a lot more flow out of the same length of overflow. -Dylan

    Moonlights: Good, bad, ugly?

Interesting. Thanks Anthony. Have you observed coral with an obviously light/dark state remaining in their daylight state with exposure to that brand of moonlight? (I'm thinking zoas in particular, but that's just because they're the most obviously different between night and day in my...

A couple pics from my tank

Pretty minimal. 2x65W PC over a 20H tank. One of the bulbs is actinic, one 10k. -Dylan

A couple pics from my tank

Oh, for anybody who is interested, this is the second set of pictures I've taken using Pixmantec's "Raw Shooter Essentials" for RAW conversion. Its free, and it knocks the socks off of anything else I've used, commercial or otherwise. It has substantially less noise for the exact same photo as...

    Attaching a Maxi-jet to a Jaco fitting?

I have a spare DI housing that I think would make a nice nano-sized carbon filter so I don't have to screw with filter bags for my 20G. (Ok, so its probably overkill for 1/4 cup of carbon, but it'd be easier to manage.) Anyways, anybody have any suggestions for how I might attach a Maxi-jet...

A couple pics from my tank

hahaha! I usually do too, but I was feeling lazy. Probably because I took over 100 exposures of my new Fridmani Dottyback, and not a one turned out. Active little bugger. -Dylan

A couple pics from my tank

Was testing a new cable release and decided to take a few quick pictures of some of the coral in my tank. I didn't do anything other than convert them from RAW and crop a bit, so they're hardly up to Sherman's standards, but I figure I'd post them anyways. =) The thumbnails kinda suck for...

    Photography Critique Threads

That's not bad at all! I've found that maybe 5% of the pictures I take are ones I'm even willing to show to people, and even less than that are ones I'm particularly happy with. I think that's one of the major things that's driven me away from film and into a digital SLR really. -Dylan

    Photography Critique Threads

Hello all! Nikki mentioned doing this on IRC a few weeks back, and I never heard anything else from her, so I figured I'd go ahead and start it anyways. I'd like to have these moved to a specialized subforum, but for now we'll just use this one. =) So, here's the deal. If you have a...

    Feeling a tad homesick...

The snow is receding now, but we actually had a winter this year! (Thankfully) I didn't have any time to go skiing though, but such is life. Who knows this winter? I hope we have another decent one. =) Redmond is still there, but most of my MSFT friends agree with yours. Times are...

    Sump Modifications

That depends on a lot of things. Volume of water in your pipes (how long they are and what their diameter is), how full you keep your sump normally, and where the siphon breaks are where the return goes into the water on your display tank. -Dylan
