Lighting options for a 38 gallon?

New to the world of LED lighting and looking for advice. Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these lights (OCreef par 38 14k) and if 2 of them would be enough for my 36x13x17 tank. OCReef PAR38 14K LED Aquarium Lamp The lights have all 3watt Cree LEDs with 90 degree lenses. The...

My 20 long build....An exercise in overkill

Well after 2 years of life throwing me curve balls, I'm ready to kick this project into gear. Once again I have decided to go back to the 38 gallon instead of the 20l. The tank is going to be drilled for 2-1" overflows with an internal surface skimmer. Hopefully this weekend. The reason I want...

    30 gallon AIO (DIY)

Rock scaping looks good. How did you attatch the rocks or are they just sitting on top of each other? It will look sweet once all those frags grow in.

not sure what's going on with water parm

When you took out the bio media from the filter you took out a substantial amount of the tanks ability to process waste so the tank is going to cycle again until the rock can produce enough bacteria to keep up with the bio load. If your worried about your critters do you have a freind with a...

My 20 long build....An exercise in overkill

Thanks Peppie I was thinking the same thing. I want to cycle the tank with only the main return I'm hoping that just the return pump (at 700gph) wont be too much flow and that should help the sand get stablized before I throw another 800 gph at it. OK got a few more pics of stuff for the tank...

    The Class Act Aquarium Stand

Very nice build on the stand and canopy. Just wondering though about your tank placement. In one of the pics it looks like your tank is between a fireplace and a heating vent? Might have an issue with keeping the tank cool.

My 20 long build....An exercise in overkill

This tank was supposed to be a 38 gallon build but i was getting ready to go and realised the tank has a brace right in the middle and it is going to block alot of light from my MH, so i decided to go with a 20 long I had instead. Most of the equipment I have for the tank came off of my old 55...

    Hi all!!

Thanx everybody. Well once again I've changed my plans and now it looks like the display is gonna be a 20 long. Im gonna start a thread in the nano section to document the build.

Time to go small! Is bigger really better?

Sounds fun. If I were you I would use some sand, rock and water from the 90 to get things started in the little tank.

    Hi all!!

Been a while since i was on here, so i thought i'd stop by here first and say hi. Im getting ready to start a new system. I've been kicking around a few ideas, but it will probly end up being a 40 gallon main display with about 90 gallons of various size frag tanks.

    Can anyone ID this fish?

If the fish truly is a chrysiptera rex they're from the Pacific around the Phillipines.

    Can anyone ID this fish?

If you look at the damsel page at fishbase that page alone has hundreds of entries for damsels and after spending most of the morning wading through all the pics I finally found that guy. I guess looking high and low wasn't good enough so I had to look somewhere in the middle.LOL

    Can anyone ID this fish?

I don't think it's a starki, the colors are opposite of what a starki is. The closest I came was a chrysiptera rex (King Demoisell) the shape of the fins and body match but the color is not quite right. Here's a link to the fish I found the closest match to...

    Can anyone ID this fish?

I know that it is a damsel I have had it for over a year and it has been a model citizen in my tank with no aggression to any other fish. It was bought as a yellow tail but as you can see it is not. I have searched the internet high and low and still cannot find a positive ID for this fish.

What is this stuff on my brain?

Just wanted to let you know that as of lights on this morning the brain is back to normal. The mesenterial filaments are no longer visable and the coral is opened up and looks happy. Thanks again for your help. Greg :D

What is this stuff on my brain?

Thanks again Anthony. I have been running the tank for almost a year with no skimmer and I do weekly 25% changes (5-gallons) and I run filter floss constantly, changing it once a week and rinsing when needed. I run carbon for three days of the week.(I put the carbon in on Friday before my Sunday...

What is this stuff on my brain?

Thanks for the quick reply Anthony. I have moved the star polyps and started miking a batch of SW. Since the tank is a 20 and I run it without a skimmer will the carbon, water changes and increased flow be enough?

What is this stuff on my brain?

There is only a small batch of GSP about an inch away. Could they be mesenterial filaments?
