    Refugium Lighting Question!

http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html That's what I use. It grew grape caulerpa fine. I'm now growing xenia with it, so far so good.

    Anthias Food

If I recall correctly, purple queens are one of the most difficult anthias to keep due to their feeding habits. I tried 2 about a year ago, neither of them ever ate anything and both died in about 4-5 weeks. They were also very shy and hardly ever seen. I've read the same about evansi anthias...

    Toms opinion on instant ocean

I used Instant Ocean for years with no issues, other than low calcium/magnesium. I switched to Reef Crystals about 5 months ago and am happy so far. I don't have to supplement calcium as much. Reef Crystals seems to only be a lot more expensive at LFS. At DrsFostersmith the price it's only $2.50...

How to get rid of unwated Zoas?

    I don't think so.

Poll: Green Polyped Sarcophyton frags from Denver, CO

Here's a pic of mine. You can see it's formed 2 buds on the bottom right. Unlike my other toadstools, this one seems to frag itself. Pretty handy.

    coraline algae

My coralline turns white after my urchin passes over it and chews on it. Turns back to pink within a couple days.

    Pyramidellid snails killing snails

I've never tried a leopard wrasse. I've always been scared off by their reputation of not handling shipping well, and thus dying in captivity frequently.

    ID this clam

After seeing more pics, I'd say almost definitely derasa now. Though it has very unusual colors for a derasa.

    Great Barrier Reef!

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=980833 That thread has tons of pics from various sites on the GBR, mostly around Townsville and Cairns I believe. Awesome photos.

    Pyramidellid snails killing snails

I have these, too. I do have a clam, but I've read that the pyrams that attack snails are a different species than the ones that attack clams. I've had them for at least a couple of months (no idea where they came from, as I haven't bought new snails in a long time). My one derasa is doing...

    ID this clam

Looking at the right side of the shell, I'd guess definitely not maxima. Looks much too smooth. Given how wide open the shell is, and how smooth it is, it looks like a derasa. But I've never seen a derasa with those colors and markings on the mantle. In conclusion: I don't know.

    why is it....

They scrub coralline off the rocks? That sounds tedious.

    why is it....

Sounds like you're talking about coralline algae. The lack of that is caused by not having any live rock in the system. Sounds pretty typical of the kind of tank you'd see in a doctor's office. I saw one in Seattle a few months ago like that. Completely barren and bleached looking. Like a...

    Custom Sump

Clear Fabrications in North Bend builds great stuff from acrylic. It's a little pricey in my opinion, but it's very solidly built and you can specify exactly what you want and they'll do it. They built me a roughly 37g sump last December. The acrylic is thicker than my 55g display tank uses. I'm...

    Deep Cleaning Acrylic ideas

I, too, am fighting a losing battle against coralline in an acrylic tank. Mine's only 55g so I have no trouble with the depth, but that stuff just does not come off near the bottom. I'm making the switch to glass when I upgrade in a few months. I've already got a 120g glass tank and stand...

    White sand?

I'm upgrading to a larger tank in the next few months and I'm having trouble finding the cheap play sand a lot of people use. I've read quite a bit on what used to be called Southdown, then it was called Old Castle, then it turned into Yard Right. None of which I can find available online. I was...

    Some Pics of my 180g

I've read many times that Evansi anthias are difficult/impossible to keep alive in captivity. Good luck with them, and I'd love to hear if you have success. They are beautiful.

What kind of pump do folks use with their ATO

I use kalk in my top off, and I do not recommend the aqua lifter for that. The kalk will clog it frequently. I use a very low powered Via Aqua powerhead, I believe it's around 100gph. If you want really slow flow from it but want to use kalk, I'd get one of those mini-jets that are adjustable...

    Best LFS's in Seattle?

Does that store still not list prices on their stuff? I've only been there once and they had no prices listed. That was a big turn off for me and I haven't been back since.

    Best LFS's in Seattle?

I think Barrier Reef is by far the best. Blue Sierra is good, but I find their coral prices to be a little on the insane side (though not quite as insane as Saltwater City). A Red Sea Aquarium is nice, with very knowledgeable employees and great prices. Just a tad small, though. ARSA had several...
