The best way to clean equipment and live rock

paint section? bah i looked all through the store thinking it was outdoors and pool section, maybe it's in both, either way i'm going back, i need to get one of those in ground sprinklers, i modded one then lost it it was by my desk for the longest time, and then when i need it... gone

The best way to clean equipment and live rock

i'd use a chisel, and carve the rock out from as close to them as u can, that's have i've done to not transfer algae from tank to tank, along with good rinsing and careful inspection i think i managed to not transfer any of the algae i meant to keep out

How to get good Above tank shots

ya, these top down boxes look great, they shouldn't be too expensive either right? they should make a filter that can screw on to lenses that has a bag around it or something, seems like an easy enough idea

    quick Bare Bottom Question

well, i decided against it, unless i want to move all the rock to put it on the starboard now, it's going to be a frag tank, so i don't think it'll be a big deal in terms of looks

How to get good Above tank shots

Do you make a makeshift tripod so that the camera faces down perpendicular to the surface of the water? all my shots handheld get bad reflection from the lights and are blurry cause i'm holding the camera rather than a tripod.

    Camera Suggestions

o just a thought too, i was just looking at the rc totm and one of the photographers used the rebel xt with the sigma 105mm macro lens, and the shots there are pretty good

    Camera Suggestions

my entire set up is about $900 i think, nikon d50 with tamron 90mm macro lens, given the lens isn't on sale anymore $90 rebate, though a similar lens is the 105mm sigma which seemed to have little differences in terms of quality and price, though the warrenty's a bit shorter, i've really liked...

what would happen if you left zoos in freshwater?

get off some of the things that eat them, some snails, spiders and such, inverts seem to let go quick when dipped in fw, check out zoaid.com for a bunch of info on zoanthids and their pests

    quick Bare Bottom Question

hmm, well none of my rocks are even stacked, they're all on the ground in some fashion, so i would think that tumbling is not going to be an issue, especially since i'm making it a frag tank, so egg crate frag racks are planned to go above the live rock

The best way to clean equipment and live rock

i found it in the pool section, 10% sulfuric and 90% inert i think, but i ended up not using it anyways
  15. MarineTeng

    quick Bare Bottom Question

alright, well it was a quick choice sine i really didn't have much eggcrate or pvc so it's on the bottom, i just need more flow now since all i have is a maxi 1200 and the flow from a aquafuge in my 55, i'm going to add a mag5 with the sprinkler for rotational flow and maybe a maxi jet modded

    quick Bare Bottom Question

Is it better to put the rock right on the bottom of the tank, or mount it up with pvc and eggcrate?

The best way to clean equipment and live rock

so i couldn't find muriatic acid at Home depot or lowes, i did pick up some ph (-) stuff that's 10% sulfric acid, is that still reef safe, or should i just go find some vinegar from a grocery store?
  18. MarineTeng

The best way to clean equipment and live rock

ya i might go to home depot or lowe's tomorrow, many people use vinegar so it must be effective, using muriatic acid u do 10 to 1, so that's pretty diluted too unless the muriatic is 100% acid which i kinda doubt

Would like to try a couple of Millepora corals or other SPS. Advice?

i have a green millipora that does well underneath my 175w 14k hamilton, it's near the top, i find it's a bit harder then montis. It starts to bleach at two of the tips and usually doing a water change helps it and it recovers it's color, all in all though it's doing well and it's growing...

A lot more Crocea then Maxima

I figured that must be part of it but things affect that too, i was thinking it might be like crocea is easier to breed or something, or maybe easier to find ones with vibrant colors?
