What To Do With A Sweeper Tentacle

My froggys do that every-now-and-again ....I think they're saying "FEED ME SEYMOUR, FEED ME!" :p (great pic!)

How to Make a Safe Water Change for Fish

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I don't know if my method really "works" or not--I've noticed a LOT of ?carbonate? build-up on my barrels/heater/PH over the past few WCs... The next time I drain the barrel--I'm going to try to submerge my PH deeper and create a more up-down current. (like...

How to Make a Safe Water Change for Fish

Why? (why only mixing up/down, not circular? and why not aeration?) I hang a maxijet PH (w/ venturi attachment) in my mixing barrel--near the surface of the water--it creates a circular current with surface aeration--what's wrong with that?

Placement for xenia and how to attach

I don't think lighting wil be an issue for you--I have Xenia placed at both the bottom and halfway point in my tank (80 gallon, 250w MH, w/VHO actinics.) and all do well.... Spreading and rapid growth are the bigger concerns with Xenia...some consider them "weeds" because they can spread so...

    Can Salifert reagents be re-calibrated?

Thanks Boomer! Since I'm going to have to buy a new kit anyways....I may try my crazy, steam-distilling idea, just for fun. :p (Since it's already broke--at least I can have some fun--tinkering with it.)

    Can Salifert reagents be re-calibrated?

Thanks for the replies everybody--I was out-of-town for M-day, but this test-kit issue is still bugging me, so.... Holygral-- My test results aren't "high" they're +1.3 dKh "higher" (than they should be)-- as compared to other Salifert ALK test kits. (Tested multiple times over the past...

    Can Salifert reagents be re-calibrated?

2 days and later and no posts--Did I stump everyone?!?

    I have a sad question

Or try to find someone local with alot of algae for it to munch on....maybe it can recuperate??

    Can Salifert reagents be re-calibrated?

I have 1 new Salifert ALK test-kit that is giving consistently high, inaccurate results (+ ~1.3 dKh).....Is there any way to adjust the reagent solution to yeild a lower result? (I thought about trying to "concentrate" the reagent solution by boiling it....) Any thoughts?

    Help With Aptasia

Sneaking IS key--don't let them retract! If I have a clear shot, then I'll stab them right in the side and squirt. (I don't know if it actually works better.... but it is a lot of fun!) otherwise aim for the face as herefishyfishy suggested... And yes, scraping is a baaaad idea--...

    hang on skimmer recommendations

(If that's how you rate a Remora---I'd hate to hear what adjectives should be used for a Red Sea Prizm  ;)) +1 for the Remora. I'm no expert--like skimerwhisper is--but I like my RemoraPro MUCH MUCH better than my old Red Sea Prizm "Deluxe" P-I-T-A! No more priming, no more...

    Help With Aptasia

(+1) My Peps waited about 3 weeks before they ate a single aiptasia--then they cleaned out the whole tank in 3 days--ate about 40 aiptasia! ....Now it's 2 months later and I'm starting to see a few apatasia pop-up in new locations... (but the shrimp, they just stay in their caves and...

cpr bakpak vs aqua c pro

Snowboarda-- Basically, the D-I-Y Silencer = folded, wet paper towel/washcloth* laid over top of the intake tube. (where the white, clean-out screw is) It can dramtically reduce the hissing noise that comes from the little aeration chamber.... (*Actually, I use a sheet of thin packaging foam...

cpr bakpak vs aqua c pro

I never had a bakpak, but I know my remora was a little louder than my old Prizm Skimmer..... (but is MUCH, MUCH Better :) ) .....Give it time some time--after about 3 weeks your ears will "adjust" and you'll start noticing that Remora hissing....then it'll be time to install a D-I-Y...

cpr bakpak vs aqua c pro

Yep, I turn mine off during feedings. Actually I have mine on a timer--it turns the Remora off everyday for about 3 hours... during my primetime TV hours ;) (It is a quiet skimmer, but not THAT quiet! :p )

    Low alkalinity problems

Say "hi" to all the little Croceas at BR for me! :) I'm heading to Ore. for Mom's day, so I'm probably going to miss my BR visit this weekend... (But I am trying to add a stopover at Upscales in Portland into our return itenerary....;) )

    RO/DI unit

From 350ppm in to 3-4ppm out sounds like a pretty good filter! (Sure "zero" would be better--but you also need to factor in the accuracy/resolution of your TDS meter....your readings might be +/- 4 at that lower concentration.....)

canister filter what media in it?

What type of algae did you put in the canister? How does it survive inside the canister w/o any light?

    Low alkalinity problems

Jan, I believe all the Eastside stores (Saltwatercity, Blue Sierra, BarierReef, etc. have them...though I haven't checked in a while.) I've actually got 2 Salifert ALK test kits at home right now (both purchased online/eBay) and I'd offer to loan you one.... but I'm getting 2 consistently...

    clean sand..??

Welcome to RF! :) What exactly does this growing stuff look like? brown spots, green, red, etc. (pics are best if you've got them.) There's alot of different things (algaes, cynobacteria, etc.) that can grow on a sandbed--but they usually all appear when there's excess nutrients and/or areas...
