I just got a used seachem ro/di unit. The unit was not used for about 8 months. I figured that I would need new membranes and filters. I kicked it on today just to see if my TDS meter works. And my meter was reading 350 ro and between 3 and 4 at the out put. Is 3 or 4 ok? Should I even use these membranes?

0 is better.

Sounds like you need new RO and DI filters

actualy your DI may be shot. I have a 3 at the output of my RO but 0 at the output after my DI

I was planing on getting new everything. But when do you usualy change them out? Would it be worth it to run it? I also just measured pre di its 45 post di its 3-4

From 350ppm in to 3-4ppm out sounds like a pretty good filter!

(Sure "zero" would be better--but you also need to factor in the accuracy/resolution of your TDS meter....your readings might be +/- 4 at that lower concentration.....)

When your TDS meter reads anything other than "0"time to change filters. Your meter doesn't have the resolution to give a true accurate measurement. If the RO membrane was stored WET with water it will be ok but If it was left without water it is not recommended to be reused.

I would buy a whole new ro di. But then again Im always buying stuff for my tank. If your two hundred dollars is better spent on other things that help your critters maybe you should do that. You could try it and see if you get a bloom of any kind.

After just the RO its 45. After the DI is 3-4

Then thats your answer. You need new everything. Check out the filter guys, good prices and the best quality. I'd get a 75gpd membrane and flow restrictor and the refills for your sediment and di. This would put you closer to 8 out of the membrane and 0 out of the di.

Don

try this

I,ve found that unless you fill your bucket in a 100 percent completely dust and free situation[which is impossible unless you work for a computer micro chip makeing facility]what starts as 0 tds ends up other than that by the time it is in your bucket.
