SO I finalized the tank and the final dimensions are 60*42*24. I opted to reduce the Width a bit to help with maintaining it. It will be here in about three weeks!!

    coral vue e ballast

I am buying these from a local reefer (the new style ballast) so I would not get a warranty with them. this is what has me more worried.

    new tank

this will be an SPS reef. I want to keep it very open so it will be viewable from 3 sides. Iam going to do two rock Islands supported with milk crates to increase flow though and decrease the amount of rock needed. There will be a four sided cave in each (at varrying heights though) to give...

    new tank

we move into our new house next weekend and I am finishing the basement and putting in a large reef tank. this is what I am thinking: I am seting up a larger tank (60*48*24 but may increase the length to 72*48*24) and will be doing 2 400DE 2 250 DE and 4 48 inch VHO's to illuminate it . I am...

    coral vue e ballast

I am setting up a 300 gallon (60/48/24) and have a local reefer who is getting rid of 2 400 ebalast (4 months old) made by coral vue. I am getting many conflicting stories that this is a bad company and they do not stand behind their products and will not warranty most things. I am also...

    Red Bugs - Inevitable?

Well I ahve teh QT tank and a maxi jet 1400 for circulation. Using a 2-24 watt pc hood from CSL. I think that QT all teh acropora before they go into my tank is the best method. I have a bali slimmer frag in there now and no S/SX of redbugs!!

    John Brancheau Slimmer

Thanks for all the encouragement here and suggestions. We thought this would be a cool project since it is unlikely that we will see anyone else with a Nano-reef set up there. OUr plan is to set up an eclipse 12 gallon at teh science fair with water and live sand from our tank and rubble rock...

That slimmer is the only coral that I have inthe tank right now. I have been keeping reefs for 15 years now and know that nothing good happens quickly in a reef tank LOL. I am actually in the process of tweaking the parameters now. I just got a refractomoeter and have been adjusting the...

wow! this is a departure from the mega high levels that we used to run! I will have to dial the reacotr back slowly. my alk is at 11 right now but I can start lowering it a bit.

so an alk near to 8 and ca near 380-400 is optimal now?

What is it and how can I make it go away?
