Has anyone ever heard of a Pectinia coral?

I have a Pectina in a fairly heavily fed mixed tank under VHO lights. Except for some damage from the sweepers from a neighboring Pavona, it seems to be doing OK.

    Bristle worm attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try soaking your hand in vinegar to dissolve the bristles. Also running your hand under hot water (as hot as you can stand) will help relieve the pain.

    Help identify please...

It might be a formaniferan, if it is very small. Hard to tell from the picture.

The big frag event this weekend is in Portland. Search on "frag swap Portland" for more info.

    Sand And Rubble

I had some several years ago. They seemed to prefer small flat pieces of shell and would build their tunnels like masons building a brick wall. Take a look at CaribSea Aruba Shell substrate.

I promise last sand bed question

Just don't make the addition too thick. Try to keep it at about 1/2 inch or less.

    Maxi-Jet mod

Do a search on "eductor", which increases the flow at the expense of velocity. I am not sure that a maxi-jet has enough pressure to make it effective, though.

    Repairing a seal Help !

I can't help with getting new seals, but I can suggest looking at the tube going out of the Kalk reactor. Mine was leaking and I eventually discovered that the end of the tube from the kalk reactor was almost closed with calcium. When the makeup pump was running, it was pressurizing the...

    Need tank design help

I did it with an 18" wide tank (a 140 gallon). It came out pretty well, but 24" would have been a lot better. The access to the sides for cleaning is pretty tight in some spots and I have limited real estate on top of the rocks for the light hungry corals. I'm sure 24" would work great...

I could use some help identifing these!

Do a search on Pseudocorynactis and see if it looks like the pictures in these threads. I had a link to a good picture, but it seems to have expired. I've had one for at least a year and it doesn't seem to spread. Does yours multiply?

Well it is safe for the inhabitants of your tank, but it messes up the surface of the acrylic.

    ID on this

It is hard to tell from the pictures, but they may be a kind of jellyfish (sessile ctenophore). How big are they? Do you see them on anything beside softies? Do you ever see long filaments extending from them? If they are ctenophores, they are harmless and interesting.

I had to do some work in my tank and now my fingers are stinging

Try running your hands under very hot water (as hot as you can stand). This will help neutralize the toxins and give you some relief.

Does anyone know what happened to Kahuna Corals

Barry had some good stuff, but it's a tough business. You might want to check out Reef Mystique in Lake Stevens. It's the most convenient good store to Shoreline (no drive through Seattle or ferry ride required).
