    Outlawing Coral and Fish Collection?

Its un related but a good case in point...look what happen to gun owners from 1994-2000 and consider that right is under your constitution! Had it not been for Gun Lobbys as I think that you refer to them as and the NRA where might you think Gun Owners would be today in America at the pace the...

    Dead Rock to live rock?

It didnt really bother me any but I can see how easy it would be for some to get a little defensive about it. I just kinda read between the lines on it. Thats a good point wrightme43. I have noticed the same thing when taking a hammer to large pieces. Like you, I wonder just how long it...

Do you use a check valve to prevent floods?

No I dont use them but it wouldnt hurt. But like Don, I leave enough room to over flow in all but 1 and it will overflow into the sink.

    55 gallon needs a skimmer _suggestions?_offers?

Lets try this one more time..... No sump and money not a factor...Remora w/ Mag 3 would be my choice! It will work very well for you I think. Getting a sump...then thats a whole different ball game. Regarding the Nautalis skimmer, the TE with a Mag 7 pump would be over kill in a most serious...

The wait is over. Tank is finally here!!!!!!

Wow dude, that tank is bad to the bone. How lucky a guy you are. Maybe, by later tonight I will quit drooling, but I doubt it! Congrats in a most serious way. I trust that you will be posting some updates here on the forum as you set things up so the ambitious, can take notes and scheme...

    Dead Rock to live rock?

I guess technically it does...but your really starting to reach for air  In all seriousness :D , under the right lighting those guys will mutliply like crazy and start making it look pretty spiffy in there (just make sure they arent Apitasia). The bad part is you will find yourself...

Thats unforunate to hear. My sympathy goes out to you , your family and friends.

    my first reef system

It took my 135 about 3 weeks to cycle with uncurred rock. I didnt add the first inhabitant until about 5-6 weeks later afterwards. (Waiting is soooo hard! I just couldnt take it anymore) I then only added something once every two or three weeks and I think I only have 5 small fish in there...

    my first reef system

Even though the system is "cycled" and the rock is cured, if it were me and I could muster the pateince I would wait a few weeks and fine tune my "live stock" shopping list. This would allow for some time for any potential "start up" problems to rear its ugly head making dealing with it so...

    Dead Rock to live rock?

Put a couple of pieces of live rock in there and it most definitely will be come live rock. But to be honest while bacteria will colonize it fairly quickly it will be a while before the coralline agale starts making it look like "real" live rock. By about 6 months it should start looking...

    D.I.Y Question????

Yes that would indeed be a disaster. I used over flow boxes (only 2 of 6 tanks are RR) for that reason instead of another pump as it will only allow my main tank to drain down so far and there is capacity in the Refugium to handle the extra water as I tested this a few times before settleing on...

    D.I.Y Question????

Work with me here a little cuase English is my second language and I might be using the wrong terms here... What is a melt down...In this context, its when your algae basically decides it doesnt want to play anymore and disolves dumping an ungodly amount of nutrients into your tank. I believe...

    D.I.Y Question????

You basically got the jist of it all, but thats a little over simplified explaination of it all. Refugiums serve many purposes, some of which you mentioned. More accurately the point of a sump is filtration, a place to stash all your junk hooked up to your tank so that you will not detract...

    Whats on your bottom?

I am running about 1.5 inches of Indo-Pacific in most of my tanks. Oolitic sand in the rest

    Nano-Forum

Yes I agree more so than not, thats why I suggested a 150 DE 20K with a Daylight PC. A small skimmer indeed is a nicety, if you can find a small one that you can cram in there without it being too much of an obstruction. If thats the case by all means use one. I would! I just dont have that...

    Nano-Forum

For lighting with SPS corals I would recommend a day light PC and a 150 watt DE 20K halide for lighting. I wouldnt really suggest a skimmer , as said before it will invarably over skim your tank taking all of the good things from the water as well as the bad. A 10 gallon refugium would however...
