    Flow rate

For softies and most LPS, 4 x 96 watt PC's or a total of 4, 110 watt VHO's would do well I think. I have used 4 x 110 watt VHO's on a 55 gallon tank with pretty good results, just didnt get the full color potential or growth potential from SPS when I had this set up. Softies did very well...

    Unknown Coral

It looks like a candy cane/Trumpet coral gone south. It could be a Torch Coral though. Kinda hard to tell. I agree if you can bring that baby back to health again, you indeed will be "The Man"! God luck with the guy though....

    Need Opinion

Im like you MzWeaselle, I have a pair of Golden Stripe Maroons and a pair of Tomato Clowns, and I got both of my pairs long before I broke down and got an Anenome. Mine ignored my Anenome for several days before cozying up to it finally. I dont really think it will be a problem adding the Fish...

    Need Opinion

Good point NaH2O! I kinda got my blinders on when this thread first popped up and forgot that aspect of it all, but true enough you dont need an Anenome for a clown to be happy. They will usually host on a Soft coral or LPS if an Anenome isnt available, so thats always a option for you. I...

    Need Opinion

Oh did I mention how good they are at finding pump/powerhead intakes? Its "multiples of sadness" when they do!!! I recommend a sponge covering on all of your intakes and over flows. Just a suggestion......

    Need Opinion

Good info you have been given, its very sound advice. Please do take it on board. For live rock...60 lbs is the minimum, I would suggest a bit more than 30 additional pounds, prehaps a box of 40-45 lbs. If you got some time to kill, some dead rock can be had for cheap via Pet...

    bio flow rotating output device

I saw those but wondered just how good they worked. It was kinda tempting to get a couple and try them out but...I dont know. But your right, at 12 bucks each they cant be all that bad. Let us know how they work out.

Size of tank for tiny blue tang.

It should fair well in a small tank for a while, but for a grown one the smallest tank I would recommend at a minimum is about 100 gallons. It has the very real possibility of getting to about 11-12 inches before it quits growing. Thats a lot of fish for a 72-75 gallon tank, even if it is the...

    How Many is TOO Many?

FWIW, unless you got a really big system of at least 500 plus gallons on the display alone...I couldnt see it with even 10 tangs much less 20. Granted thats just my opinion, and that doesnt hold a lot of weight. But your talking about 10 or more fish that are going to get about 7 inches long...

    Starfish Question....

No I didnt get a pic but it resembles a Linka for the most part and has black on the last 1cm of the 5 legs. Behavior wise it seemed to have many of the same habits as a Linka, ie...hanging on a piece of live rock and kinda waving an arm in the water as if it was hoping to snag a "scooby snack"...

help me out plz. I'm goin' nutz

Your right, they dont make one. When you listed the bulb brands I assumed that you too were like me and running SE bulbs on a HQI ballast and not DE. So my bad, I shouldnt have assumed. Now that I am on the same page...I would go with the 20K XM or if you "have longer arms and deeper pockets"...

    Starfish Question....

I saw a Black Tipped Red Starfish the other day at the LFS. Anyone got some inside info on these guys? Are they reef safe? What do they eat? Would my clams be "on the menu"? Any info someone could privide would be greatly appreciated....

help me out plz. I'm goin' nutz

Not sure if they will work on your fixture but the Hamilton 14K's are my first choice in your situation if its available. I have a 250 watt dual light fixture that I am running 20K's on and its pretty nice for a second choice, again if thats an option on your set up.

    Lighting For a 55 Gallon

if they want to be able to keep anything...I would suggest that they go with a halide set up from the start, at least I sure wished I would have...I would have saved a grip of "fun dollars" if I would have. If there is no possibility of up grading to a bigger tank/deeper tank in the future...I...

10 Gallon.. Would that be enough?

A small sump/refugium is always better than no refugium in my opinion. I think your okay, if that is what will work for you!

    More Algae In Reefs?

Aside from the reasons mentioned by NaH20 and Curtswearing the other issue is that the roots and hold fast can become embedded in the rock in your tank and you will never be able to remove it once they get a foot hold. At that point you will only be fighting a war of attrition in an effort to...

    Tank too hot

Yeah got the giant ice berg thing going in my sump too on the few days when the temp gets up there. I keep a few of them on hand so I can always rotate one in as needed. Running the lights at night has really helped the most as its kinda cool here at night time. You also can just put one of...

    Outlawing Coral and Fish Collection?

Dont hold your breath...stupider (I dont think thats a word but you know what I ment) bills have went through before..... As currently wrote, this bill aint about saving reefs as much as it is about feeling good and trying to save the world from itself. Sorry if that offended anyone.

    Outlawing Coral and Fish Collection?

I think its a band aid on a cut throat! There are a lot of other things damaging reefs more than taking some fish or some coral off the reef. Ever see what a boat anchor and anchor rode does to a reef? Way more damage than you will ever do taking a couple of corals especially if its a less...

    Carbon Use

I use it 24/7 actively in a small filter (diy filter thats mainly to take out partuculate matter only) in part to mitigate any possible coral wars. Do I need to be doing this? I dont rightly know for sure. But I figure it cant hurt. Can it?
