Compatability help Please.Do i need to get rid of a few?

A 300g isn't for everyone. I mean I don't like BMW's, but that doesn't mean I care less about my car than someone that has one. We all have different tolerance levels :) Regarding the origional discussion. Have you talked to a LFS about trading in those fish for credit or some nice corals to...

Compatability help Please.Do i need to get rid of a few?

I agree with Sid. Not only are all of your fish not considered "reef safe", but they will get too large for that tank and it will be considerably crowded. With your current fish list you would no be able to support any clean up crew. They'd all be lunch :) You might be able to keep the tangs.

Thanks I'll keep it in mind :) Truthfully I only have the attention span for one forum though.

    starting a 55 gallon

You probably got the Ph test kit in the blue box and the Ammonia in the yellow box? Those are the most popular FW test kits and I believe they work for SW but I would replace them with a reliable kit when you have the chance. Personally I wouldn't start to cycle a tank without a skimmer, but...

    helfrich w/ hole

Yeah I doubt it was anything in your tank as well. It could be he got startled and impaled himself on a rock, but to me it looks to be the start of an ulcer.

Dry "live sand" is just sand :) It won't hurt to put it in your tank but don't pay live sand price.

    sump size

I've heard so many bad things about bio balls that I would avoid them. Fortunately I've never used them :) The best piece of advice anyone can give is to decide what you want out of your sump before you buy one. Usually the biggest difference between DIY and professional sumps is how pretty...

    starting a 55 gallon

I agree with Soya and Luke. It really depends where you get your rock. If you buy a ton of base rock then you could add your rock right away after you clean the new rock really well. You shouldn't expect a drastic cycle in this senario. If you buy LR that has been previously wet, then you...

    Purple and Yellow tangs

They've only been in there 2 weeks. I think the purple will see a larger tang as a threat and go for dominance. Right now I'm in the sand box so all my stuff is in storage. When I go home in a few weeks, I'm probably going to move to Pearl City. I love to go browse in Coral Fish Hawaii!! I'll...

    How much is too much...

I agree with Scooter's theory. Larger water changes will be more stressful for the inhabitants, but it will show results faster than doing a little amount over a longer period of time. If the problem is in your DSB, then you could do water changes for the next 5 months and it wouldn't matter.

    Purple and Yellow tangs

I agree with Maxx. I have never seen scientific proof that an odd or even number of tangs theory. The problem is that you've added tangs with the same body type, which is what will promote the agressive tendencies. I personally dont see anything wrong with adding another yellow tang if you are...

    my tank

Thats my bad  You have Percs. and Black Osc. Clowns. Onyx are True Percs. that have extended black line connecting the white and orange.

    12G Nano ReefCube

Welcome to RF :) Because you are using inhabitants not native to your waters, I would avoid using natural SW unless you are going to run it through an RO/DI like they do at the Seattle Aquarium. If you use it straight, everytime you do a water change you're going to add potentially bad...

    Soyadrink's (Nelson) 50g

Fun tank thread :) How do you like your coast to coast overflow? How loud is it? How much flow are you pushing into it from the sump? Hehe sounds like you bought a frozen fish

    Niger Trigger in reef

One thing to consider when reading a book is that they are largely based on comparison and averages and not all are based on personal experience but rather build on other scientists research. Expect the best, prepare for the worst ya'know? Some fish nip, some fish don't, each has a personality...
