    Skimmer question

So really you need a skimmer for a 350 gallon system... I probably should have thought of that :( Hey what do you think of the Octopus Extreme series? Maybe a 250 or 300... How do they differ from the SWC series. To me they look the same but thats with an untrained eye.

    Bristle worms

LOL thats awesome! I never name my fish because I can never remember the names I come up with. I did date a girl for about 3 years that used to name my fish for me. She had some sweet names for them :)

going from 55 gallon tall to 125

If you're going to keep a tank full of sps and lps, then I would add the reactor. It will make your life alittle easier. That means you're going to have to add a sump. Might have to upgrade your skimmer. Make sure you have enough flow. Lights are good. Good luck on the new project :)

    new tank set up

The rockwork is going to be very important. The more caves and corals you have the less you are going to see your lions and the harder it will be to feed them. Also the more you have to put your hands in the tank, the more likely it is that you may get stung. All it takes is that one time you...

    new tank set up

Great advice Returnofsid I just wanted to drop alittle line on the dwarf lions. Yes they will be harder to get on dead food than the larger species. Make sure you do alot of research on converting them. I completely suggest using a feeding box / basket.. Also dwarf lions aren't going to swim...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

LOL I agree with Sandollar and DonW. Wild fish swimming in the unimaginable water volume of the ocean don't have the same stress factors as those swimming in a glass box.

I wouldn't worry too much about the chemistry of the water you're going to squirt on the little guys. Its not going to be enough to change too much. Just make sure the water is really hot because the temp is going to drop once it hits the cool tank. Be careful :)

    Skimmer question

You probably won't need a new skimmer for awhile. I mean you're going to have the same bioload that you have in your 90 gallon, except now its going to be in triple the water volume! Expect less skim from the ASM 2 on the larger tank, but that isn't necessarily an indication of how well the...

I've never used JJ, lemon juice or kalk but I have used boiling water. Go buy one of those syringes w/o needle, like the ones they use to feed babies medicine, from the drug store or the livestock feed store. The smaller the exit hole the more acurate the projection. Make sure you get down in...

going from 55 gallon tall to 125

What kind of corals are you keeping? What skimmer do you have? May need a bigger one since you're doubling (maybe tripling if you add a sump) your water volume. You will need more flow. the 125 is deeper than the 55g so you may need to upgrade your lights both in length and in intensity to get...

help my lionfish, he is not eating

Its not that uncommon for lions and eels to stop feeding for a time in the home aquarium. Some people say they get bored but I've never found any substantial proof to support that theory. Sounds like a pretty big bio load with that feeding schedule. You may want to skip a feeding or two and...

When a sump is installed properly, you won't have to worry about a flood. The only thing that would really cause a backup would be a snail stuck in the drain pipe and that is easily prevented with gutter guard and plastic mesh. I know its hard to have an empty tank at first, but take it from...

Firstly the bubble algae removes easily, you just have to be careful. If you can pull the rock out, that would be the best thing. You can grab ahold of the bubble and shake it loose or edge it away from the rock with a knife. I've had a few break outside the tank and didn't have an outbreak. My...

    Cutting centerbrace of a 36bowfront

Skimerwhisperer has a pretty good idea. If you remove the center brace on a bowfront tank entirely, you won't even notice the tank failure until its too late. The pressure on the back corners would be huge and they would just give out one day without warning.

    Splash Cover over tank

About 10 years ago I had the plastic brace on my 55g break. The tank had an terrible bow in the front. I would definately replace it as described above if you wan to change it.
