    Flow in a BB system?

How I love those with the center overflow ... why didn't they make them like that before? Anyway ... griping aside, that's a nice flow setup. Given corals need to be put in - flow is going to have to be tweaked for them first IMO. Whatever happens to the detritus, if the corals aren't happy...

    Flow in a BB system?

And pardon the large image, but this one probably serves things best:

    Flow in a BB system?

Well, I got some things together. But do realize ... work in progress. Actually probably going to add a 6000 stream in place of my `hidden seio' ... and remove the MJ's, replace left side one with the spare Seio. Maybe remove either eductor or visible Seio to cut down on visible presence...

New Wild Acro Colony ... Acclimatization/advice?

Well, thanks in part to good advice ... the coral is doing great. Still in it's initial location, but as shown below - growing. Not a lot of encrusting, starfish that came in on it still appears to be living inside the rock part ... but has been showing growth for a few weeks now. Probably...

    Flow in a BB system?

Ugh, I'm working on it, but not done. Pesky work has me training someone in, so I actually have to do work related stuff most of the time ;)

    Flow in a BB system?

Nick ... I'll try to get one up tonight after work. Not a bad idea, but probably need another photo or 3 to demonstrate.

    Flow in a BB system?

I meant that I had a SSB [1/2"ish]... and removed it. For the next 3 or 4 months, there was a remarkable amount of detritus/substrate that would emerge. Almost daily ... I could siphon it out almost daily for a period and it would appear the next morning. I pulled the rocks to remove the...

    Flow in a BB system?

Bingo Mike ... but I also found in the `rock shedding phase' that there was such a huge amount of detritus that even bi-weekly turkeybaster episodes still had it piling up too fast. That just in terms of quantity - too much was being produced leaving small pockets that quickly fed macro-algae...

New Wild Acro Colony ... Acclimatization/advice?

Update: Time has passed ... colony is doing great. Still in somewhat shaded area, my new 250w MH upgrade is now at my 9.5 hours + holding steady. I fragged three small branches from one part - doing well, one up on the back glass fairly high to see how that would treat it. Well, I guess :)...

Lets talk about Controlling Algae in a BB system!

I have a mix of Astreas and Ceriths - which seem to address different things. Had to add a couple turbos for one algae the others wouldn't touch ... but my biggest alterations to how I run things with BB is to increase the amount of flow behind and thru the rockwork ... If algae is growing on...

    Lighting upgrade

I would try it. My XM 10k was looking yellow recently, kind of annoying me. When I did my once/twice monthly bulb/reflector cleaning this weekend + adjusted the bulbs in the process of cleaning them ... no more yellow-bulb. Maybe it's voodoo, maybe it's just as yellow - all I can say is that...

    Let's Talk About ~Snails~

I know I buy a LOT less Astreas with a BB tank. I think the `can't flip over' problem is more concentrated with a DSB with nothing for them to hold onto ... where a BB they can flip over a lot better. They're still not great at it - but very different situation. As for Nassarius - I quit...

    tunze wave box

They hook up to the multi-controller ... so you could have it on for only periods of a day ... or less powerful for periods. Saw it at IMAC too ... really looks great and a good solution/tool for some tanks. Needed? No.

Corals That look Like Something Else

I can't tell you the number of times I've tried to format macro pics of my bubble coral to realize all that bulging tissue and dangling tentacles ... the photo gets closed. Sadly I fragged `the hand' ... a A.millepora-type that branched out just perfectly.

    Red Bugs - Inevitable?

Reed - I'm glad you are the `lemming watcher' as this isn't something I think anyone should bandwagon along with and just do. Frankly, as ALL future Acropora might be problematic ... QT procedures etc must be considered and put into effect to avoid any re-introduction. There may be side...

    Red Bugs - Inevitable?

Good luck with it. I had difficulty finding them on a number of corals that showed multiple signs of them [loss of underbody color, zero polyp extension even at night, lack of growth over a 4 month period]. Except for one coral in my tank, I never could locate one on my corals. That frag was...

New Wild Acro Colony ... Acclimatization/advice?

No, I don't ship frags ... right now. But I'll probably be at IMAC this coming year, unsure about MACNA.

New Wild Acro Colony ... Acclimatization/advice?

Well, unofficially ID'ed as Montipora stellata. Have it residing in a somewhat sheltered light-wise, less so flow-wise area of my tank. To mount it well I had to cut a branch [and ended up with two, you know how it goes ] ... mounted on plugs on the frag rack now. Here's a couple more...

New Wild Acro Colony ... Acclimatization/advice?

Here's the monti ... still waiting for MH2 to kick in [but still quite sheltered]. Reminds me of my ORA `german blue' digi ... but the branch tips and form suggested to my eye that it's not your average digi. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope not ... but at worst here's the initial pics. Eye candy pics...

New Wild Acro Colony ... Acclimatization/advice?

Yup, an Oceanic 58. I'd call it the perfect starting tank for a SPS-er ... nice shape, small enough to fill with frags and get results in. Once I crowd this thing, I'll have the big colonies for my next tank. Every 10 days ... sounds good to me, similar to what I'd do with any new frag...
