The Skimming beast is dead....Long live beast ver 2

Excellent Mike, that makes perfect sense now. But what about the air? How much is enough? Is there a hard and fast ratio? And if I made a 50 gallon chamber and just utilized the tubes for getting rid of the foam would the height of the tubes matter?

The Skimming beast is dead....Long live beast ver 2

Mike, I'm sure you have answered this before but here it is again. What does the formula represent? How do you come about the X60X60 portion? And what is the hard and fast rule of air flow? Is there a set amount of air for a given water flow or is it based on total height? (of skimmer or water...

The Skimming beast is dead....Long live beast ver 2

Yes Mike, I know, oh boy do I know!!! Contact time--- sheesh!! I tried the math that someone posted here awhile ago and the size I came up with wouldn't fit through my door. So this is what I went with. Yes, there are baffles installed in the skimmer. There is also a built in bubble trap...

The Skimming beast is dead....Long live beast ver 2

Mike, Don't you mean 3000GPH? That this is running about 1600 GPH and foaming like a machine. Of course time will tell on the overall design of it but this is the second I've built for people here in the club and they are working awsome. If you remember Mike I talked with you about building a 4...

    Iwaki 220v pump efficiency

I would assume that Don knows what he's talking about. More than likely what he's refering to is the start amperage. Most motors take 6-10 times the full load amps to start. Using 240 vac will decrease that somewhat. However, in this small of a motor there wouldn't be any noticable differance...

    Iwaki 220v pump efficiency

I agree, free is the best way to go.

    Iwaki 220v pump efficiency

Actually there is no efficiency gain. 240 watts at 120 vac or 120 watts at 240 vac is the same power consumption. Unless the power utility only charges you for a single phase of your incoming power then there is no monetary gain from using 240 instead of 120. (My utility charges for both A and B...

    PLC Programming Help

This unit was also from an excess piece of equipment but I also have the original Direct Soft disks. I tried to make something work for me in Labview 7.1 (at work) but can't seem to get the VI's right for the timers. Direct soft is also giving me fits. The basic problem is my lack of know how...

    PLC Programming Help

Ok, the PLC is a Direct Logic 405 with a CutlerHammer color touch screen interface. What I'm looking for is someone I could pay (or trade with) to write the program for me based on my supplied specs/sequence of operation. If anybody is interested in taking this on please jump in and contact me.:)

    Does this work???

Hey Mike, I'm thinking a 7500 or two would keep things in suspension. :D Jesse, I would opt for the Ampmaster 4000 or equivalent, maybe on a 3 way motor operated valve.

    Pet supply liquidator

I have purchased bulbs from Ocean Encounter, Custom Aquatic and Hello Lights. The only time I had a problem was with a bulb from Custom Aquatic and they reponded right away and corrected the problem. I have no complaints about anyone of the three.

    375 Gallon Project Under Way

Looks awsome Greg, I think I'll have to come up when you get it done and set up just to drool!!!

    Green slimer

Don, You also may be seeing the differance between the lights. I have noticed that in Ricks tank a light lavender milli looks dark purple in my tank. He used the same 400 watt bulb but fires them on electronic ballasts. Just a thought.

    Green slimer

Don, I agree with Kevin. I have a very large colony of green slimer (larger than a 5 gallon bucket) and the tips up near the light are very light to almost white shading to very dark green down deep in the middle and closer to the bottom. This is lighted with 10k EVC 400 watt fired from M59 ballast.

One pump? Two Pumps? I'm confused.

On my mostly SPS tank I use three closed loop pumps and one Dolphin 2100 for the sump return. I do belong to the "more flow is better" club though.

    What is Wrong with this

Anthony, Thankyou for the quick reply. I shut down the sump tonight when I got home and fed the tank with Marine Snow. After about an hour I noticed polyups out in the areas that I thought were dead. It seems you were right about feeding this. I feel bad for having neglected the poor creature...

    What is Wrong with this

I’ve had this green cup coral in my system for sometime now and it was doing fine until I installed a Luminarc reflector over it. I kept the same EVC 10K 400 watt bulb. Once the tissue started peeling away I moved the coral into a lower light area of my tank. I also directed two nozzles at it...
