Any know what would cause a green slimer to turn purple. Ive got one that is ver light almost white. Doesnt look like typical bleaching, just very light green. The other has started to turn bright purple in the center of each branch. Ive also got another unidentified coral that used to be the same color as a slimer and also has started turning purple.

Thanks
Don

What kind of light is it under? Mine was yellow under MH but has turned back to green in my tank with VHOs. I haven't heard of one going purple though.

10K Ushio 250w.

Hu Don,
Most of the time SPS corals change color due to changes in lighting intensity and spectrum. I've seen the A. yongei range from brown to dark green to a very light yellow, all from the same parent colony. I've seen people post claming to own blue A. yongei but I haven't seen it in person (I suspect they are A. formosa) but it is always possible. If you like the new coloration hopefully it will remain that color. Coral color is seldom an indicator of coral health similar to polyp extention.

Regards,
Kevin

Don,
I agree with Kevin. I have a very large colony of green slimer (larger than a 5 gallon bucket) and the tips up near the light are very light to almost white shading to very dark green down deep in the middle and closer to the bottom. This is lighted with 10k EVC 400 watt fired from M59 ballast.

I was kind of hoping these would stay bright green. They came from Rick's colony that was very bright last August. I'm sure they are fine health wise, both a trippled in size. May be time to change bulbs, these are about 4 months old.

Don,
You also may be seeing the differance between the lights. I have noticed that in Ricks tank a light lavender milli looks dark purple in my tank. He used the same 400 watt bulb but fires them on electronic ballasts. Just a thought.
