    Disaster Has Struck!

Johnny- If you can get that old tank to Spokane, I'll put a big ugly patch on it, and it could be used as a sump, or a frag tank. I hate to see tanks sitting dry... :) Zeph

Finally got the 125 half cylinder done!

    Equipment Swap at May meeting:

Howdy all- I just wanted to encourage everyone to bring down their used equipment to the meeting. We will setup a table or two and put tags on each item. You can sell or trade with others as desired. For example, I'll have some power-heads, plus some bags of "Pure Caribbean aragonite" to...

    diy phosphate media reactor

Weldon #16 would be fine for your use, and much easier to use. 3.5" OD acrylic tube fits 3" PVC fittings. They don't make a standard tube size that fits 4" fittings. Looks like it will work good. :) Zeph

    Anti-siphon hole on return line

Actually, I like having the hole at, or above the water level. I often face the hole towards the back of the tank, so the stream of water hits the tank back and top frame, and drips back in. You can be sure the hole is not clogged because the stream is visible. When it is fully underwater, it...

    What camera do you use?

Hey all- I just ordered a Nikon D70 last week, should get it in a few days. Comes with the standard 18-70 lens. Anyone use the D70 or D100? Any good tips/tricks? And what macro lens should I pick up for tank pictures? Thanks- Zeph

    Some Plumbing for Nikki

It needs to be sealed from the inside. Any glue on the outside would be under pressure, and would have to bond pretty strongly to hold. As mentioned, #16 might do it, #40 might work great too. I think some silicon on the inside would hold it too. Zeph

    May Meeting- 22nd.

Hey all- I did not realize that the 29th was a holiday weekend. I don't want to have it when everyone is going to be out at the lake or something, so we are moving it to the 22nd. Everyone is welcome- Out of towners are specifically invited as well. Post here what you would like to bring for...

    May Meeting- 22nd.

Charlie has pointed out that this is Memorial day weekend. I'm thinking we may need to change to the 22nd. Here are the boxes of acrylic scraps that will be given away free- Lots of good pieces in there. Zeph

    recirc loop on a skimmer

Steve- That is an idea that I have kicked around as well. The down side is now you need two pumps- One for recirculating, and one to drive your Beckett input. I think it is worth a shot- If you T out of the exit line for your recirculating pump input, you will not need to make any extra holes...

    My plumbing plans

Eric- Do you have a manufacturer for those parts? I'd like to track them down. I've tried some of the online plastic shops, and have had no luck yet. Thanks- Zeph

Wiring & Electrical Design & Safety!

Thanks Scooterman- I'm going to wire in a whole-house auto-transfer switch soon, so wanted to make sure I understood. :) I'm planning on pulling the meter base, and rewiring from there to the transfer switch (with disconnect) and then to my main panel. I picked up a used 20KW generator...

Wiring & Electrical Design & Safety!

Can you explain this a little more? I am not aware of any limitations to remoting a sub-panel that apply here. I ran a 100 amp sub panel off of my main panel (200 amp) when I wired my new house. Fully inspected and all. Can they not just drop in a 40 amp breaker, run the wire and drop in the...

    More progress diy aquarium controller

Sheesh- They are coming out of the wood-work. :) I used to be CAD manager for Wagstaff- That was back on AutoCAD 9-11 though, so in the old days. I've got some experience in board layout (up to 8 layers) in SMT too if anyone needs a little bit of work done sometime. Zeph

    How'd you plumb your pump.

Josh- That might not be a fair picture, as it was before it was running. Here is a current picture- Added two heaters, kalk reactor timer, light timers, and supplies. Still, I try to keep the cords somewhat neat, so I can plug/unplug things as needed. Zeph

    building an acrylic tank.

An L shape is far more difficult than a basic box. I understand the desire to build your own tank, but that is a pretty tough design. I've not tried something like that before, so can't give much advice, but here are a few tips: Use Weldon 40 glue- Nothing else is designed for the stresses...
