Is it ok to have the hole above water?

My corner overflow has a water level half as much as the display tank, so if I drill a hole in the return line (the entire return line is in the overflow box) it is going to be expose to air and squirting water.

Or should I raise the water level in the overflow box?

Thanks a bunch.

Joyce the easist way would be to raise the water level. You could also put som ro/di sized tubing in it and point it down to.

Actually, I like having the hole at, or above the water level. I often face the hole towards the back of the tank, so the stream of water hits the tank back and top frame, and drips back in.

You can be sure the hole is not clogged because the stream is visible. When it is fully underwater, it is not as noticeable.

Just arrange it so there is no salt spray to deal with-
