    Softies= dirtier water?

    This is something that has been bothering me for a while. I cannot buy into this "phylosophy" that soft corals and LPS need "dirty" water to thrive. If any of us has ever been diving/snorkling we have seen that LPS, soft and SPS corals are able to thrive in the same conditions in the wild. True...

    My New Metal Halides

    Krish you're fine, what you do need to look at is at that big swing between nite and day you don't want a 6 degree swing between the 2. I live in Puerto Rico which as you know, has basically the same weather as the Bahamas. My tank at nite goes down to 80 degs. and during the day it goes as...

    Do you know what this growth is?

    Or porites, if we take the HO filter's intake as size reference.

    Scored Big!

    This is from iwan's thread who is the owner of the tank that was posted b4: "I know the marketing argument that T5 lights are up to 3 years utilizable. T5 lights can burn for a long time but the loss of the spectrum is too heavy for a stone coral keeping after around 9 months. Bernd Mohr has...

    Scored Big!

    So according to you T5's or any flour.'s light only spread out directly below and no light will be "spilled"?

    Scored Big!

    Also most of those nice european tanks get those bulbs replaced starting at every 6 mos. which if you add up, you won't be saving much if anything at all.

    Scored Big!

    How do you figure light will be wasted out of the sides of the tank?

    my forever nuisance algae

    Google rhodophytes and dictyota, surely looks like that. If in fact it is R or D this algae thrives in low nutrient environment also, kinda of a hard algae to kill off.

    ????Advantage and desadvantage of Sand Bed

    For how long has the SB been set up? What kind/size grains are you using? How deep? What are the tank's chem. levels Ca/Mg/Alk/Ph ? Are you dosing any supplements? Are there any sand bed stirring critters? Let's start with these and try to help you.

    Since when with Coraline?

    Just make sure your Ca, Alk, Mg are in balance and you'll have coralline up the wazoo in no time :D . I think this is the biggest contradiction in this hobby we can't wait for it to start growing, but once it does we just hope it would go away. ;)
