    Reactor effluent into refugium

I have heard dripping kalk into your skimmer intake can aid in phosphate removal, not sure about a carx, bt the extra co2 idea sounds cool. I would imagine you would need a semi decent sized sump/ball of cheato to make use of the co2 though.

best way to remove all phosphate?

Wow $6/lb not too bad, especially since less goes a longer way than other carbons. Thanks for the link

Are we doing this right,Or are we way off?????

I agree as well. Although my shallow sand bed hold all kinds of fish poop eating things, which all take part in eating detritus before it rots. Is that considered pre-nitrification? 1cubic inch of CC has a lot less surface area than 1 cubic inch of sand for AEROBIC (NOT ANAEROBIC) bacteria to...

best way to remove all phosphate?

Hey Don, on that link you posted above, you mention ROX, I cant find that on their site (I'm blind, I know), do you have a link that points there directly?

    Just like my 12g refugium!

Are we doing this right,Or are we way off?????

Yes, there are many ways to skin a cat :) Personally I like the look of sand, a lot better than bare bottom, plus I don't like scraping coraline off the sides of the glass, let alone the bottom too! I don't like the look of 2+year old bare bottom tanks either, the bottom is usually a mix of...

Are we doing this right,Or are we way off?????

Yes most definitely. What I meant by "buy it from your LFS if you cant get a filter" was to buy the already processed RO/DI water in BUCKETS from your LFS if you cant afford an RO/DI system at this time. The filter guys are excellent, great customer service and prices.

Want To Hear A Hello From Locals

We are in Post Falls, and have only missed 1 Spokane meeting in 12 months :) edit: Hey! Again, I didn't read the whole thread, and had a total different idea of what was going on than reality! What I should have said was "Yes, you are locals!" I will leave the unedited post above the edit you...

Are we doing this right,Or are we way off?????

Doesn't Don have a special way with words :) He is right though :/ I wouldn't worry about your salt all that much at this time (other than sal/sg is too low). Heck I use Oceanic, I have some algae issues, but I also don't have a $300 skimmer, an over abundance of liverock, and I am still new to...

    die bubble algea!!

Hi there, the easiest way (in my opinion) is to leave them alone for the time being, and take a look at your nitrates/phosphate levels. Are you using RO/DI water for top off and water changes? Also, what are your nitrates testing at currently, and how often are you performing water changes?

    Recommended Alk

Hey mike, what benefit do you get from running higher alk? keeping your CA up? Or is it more about keeping the low side of a swing above 8? I can get a .5 swing depending when I take a test, and when its low its like 7.5. I have been thinking of getting alk higher so the low swing doesn't fall...

    What to add to water?

I -do- supplement with a kalk drip (lime water), about 1g per day over a 24 hour period to keep my alk/ph in line. I use Oceanic salt which keeps calcium high, but alk runs real low without the supplemental drip.

    Homicidal Hermit crabs?

Hey Brie, thats a whole lot of cleanup crew in your 8g, more specifically a whole lot of hermits. I don't know to tell you the truth, if the hermits are the ones causing your dusters grief (maybe the nassarius is burrowing under/displacing them?), but I do know in my 58g I only have 3-4...

    Head Loss

It's pretty much a 90 bend when one side is open I would say, I calculate it in my head loss as a 90, but I have a 2 way that only opens 1 side at a time, other models might be different
