    use RO/DI water if your using tap water that could be your big issue. turn your lights off for a few days and it will start to die off. And if you really need to I will give you the name of the chems I ended up using, txt me if you need it.

    the 12x12x12 cube at barrier is a really good way to go thats what I have been running for 2 years yes I have put a sump on it for the fun of it and no I do not run a skimmer as with a tank this small you only have to do a 1 gallon a week water change and problem is solved.

    Frankie, I am doing the method you told me about I wish I had a good corded drill at this point as I just used up two 18v batteries in about 10 min but starting to look alot better thanks for the help.

    So I have removed part of the sand bed in the front of the tank so there is 2" of sand bed. The shrimp made a huge mess got it all cleaned up now to see if he is happy with his cave and my sand. He's fun to watch work.
