    Fair assumption?

Yes, lighting will affect the color of coraline and can cause bleaching of a certain color if the intensity changes. Happens all the time to people when they upgrade their lighting.

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Sounded like it is directed to me, but I will take your word for it. Nothing wrong with anyone wanting to set up their tank this way (it's their tank) and never said it was a bad thing or totally wrong. Infact, I did say it is similar to refugiums which do basically the same thing so I agree...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Why is it that you can call me the devil's advocate (insult), but you say to keep insults and inflammatory remarks to yourself, and discuss in a mature manner? Don't take the written word for what it isn't (Forums 101). Like I mentioned, good old debate.

    Ike hurricane

Texas looked like they took a pounding. So un-fortunate. Hope all faired well in Louisiana Scooterman.

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

I hope you are not offended by a good old debate. The title of this thread can be very misleading to someone who doesn't know any better or who doesn't have an understanding of things. A pretty bold statement don't you think? You can't expect to make such a bold statement and not have people...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

In some cases, it is obvious that majority rules. You can't go by "what if" here. The fact of the matter is skimmer's are on the market so there is no issue with someone not being able to use one. They have also yielded positive effects on tanks which is why many people use them. Very true...

    overflow question

Just a question, but do you have the U-tube in properly and not backwards as one end is longer than the other?

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

You are trying to compare two totally different things so don't be rediculous here. Hardly any comparison in scenarios. Algae scrubbers are a thing of the past not some new invention (incase you didn't know). There have been many advances in the hobby since algae scrubbers were introduced and...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

The majority of tanks (do a poll if you wish) with all varieties of corals have a skimmer in their setup or better yet, are not using an algae scrubber. People with algae scrubbers are in the vast minority. Do the math. It is plain and simple to figure out.

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Good point DonW and my point exactly. As mentioned earlier, more emphasis should be placed on keeping a system free of waste before it becomes a problem than to rely on something else to deal with the waste when it becomes a problem. Get to the source first and your ahead of the game.

    overflow question

U-tube's if primed properly should never lose siphon. Even if the pump is shut off and re-started you shouldn't have an issue.

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Very impressive. You are off to a great start.

    BBurrows13' 75g Bahamian Beauty

    (1) Temp should sit between 78F-83F without drastic fluctuations over short periods of time. If you are sitting at 80F then that is good. (2) Rock quantity in terms of lbs will vary as some rock is more dense than others so it is hard to put a number on things. Just put in as much as you feel...

    What are these little guys??

You will notice all sorts of new things on your rock as time passes even if you haven't added anything in a long time to the tank. It use to amaze me. I think herefishyfishy's on to something. First pic is a little blury though.

Very interesting concept. This should be a very nice project.

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

This system would never work for me. The reason why is because where there aren't any excess nutrients present, algae won't grow so what's the point. I think probably more emphasis should be placed on how to keep your system balanced and stable rather than trying to inhibit algae growth. Just my...
